ABC presented its TCA panel today and confirmed the news that had been making the rounds since Friday: Desperate Housewives will be coming to an end in May 2012.
The eighth and final season of Desperate Housewives will be premiering on Sunday, September 25 at 9:00 p.m. The network has released a few details and spoilers about the upcoming season.
At the end of season 7, Carlos had accidentally killed Gaby's stepfather in order to stop him from attacking Gaby. Bree, Susan, and Lynette arrived in the aftermath of the murder and agreed to help the Solis' clean up the accident. Season 8 will focus on the fallout from the murder. Carlos will feel increasingly guilty and Gaby will be working hard to reach out to him. Susan's guilt causes her to withdraw from her family and friends. Lynette and Tom's marriage will continue to deteriorate and Lynette is "having trouble making the right choices ever since she participated in the cover-up". Bree, meanwhile, will have to do a lot of side-stepping around her new boyfriend, Detective Chuck Vance, in order to keep the secret.
At today's TCA panel, Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry said that this was the right time to end the show and know that it will end will allow them to "end this in the classiest way possible." Cherry promises season 8 will go back to its roots: "The mystery of what's going on this season harkens back to the first season [and the mystery of Mary Alice]." Fans also shouldn't expect a spin-off in the near future. Cherry wants to focus on retooling his pilot Hallelujah, which wasn't picked up for the 2011-2012 season but is being worked on for the future.
I am very disappointed about we will be losing the Desperate Housewives. From the first time my husband and I saw it, we were hooked. Looked forward to it every Sunday night. Your cast was outstanding. You made one mistake however, in our opinion, when you turned it into just one more R rated viewing. I remember asking my neighbor if she watched it and her reply was "NO ever time I try, all l see is someone "in bed". You didn't need to do that – you had a great script and outstanding cast. You didn't need all the sex. It even turned us off – though we didn't give up. I am so sorry that you made it offensive and cheap to some of us who still think sex is a private matter. Yes we will watch it this last season – sorry your writer chose to make it R rated.
i am so upset that it is ending :( , i think they should make a film in the future, it has been so good i have all of the seasons. its my favourite t.v show and im so sad it has to come to an end:'(.
It's stupid to end here they need to go to at least season 10. ending all the good shows to early.
Some websites say it will end after 8, others say there is a possibility for a 9th. Maybe Cherry is pulling a Seinfeld and going off on a high note? I agree with the poster that it became way too sexual. The characters are funny and charming enough they don't need sex to attract people to the show.
There are a few performances by the ladies that I will always remember -when Susan was trying on her wedding dress and Mike came in, after finding out she had sent Zach away. Her meltdown in the street was outstanding. And when Gabby's adopted baby was taken away, that scene still gives me chills and chokes me up when I watch it.
Only on Desperate Housewives can you be married three times, twice to the same man.
Only on Desperate Housewives two husbands have commited murder, a kid and later his step father do a hit and run, a neighborhood kid becomes a serial killer, and a fairweather friend has slept with 3 of her 4 friend's exes.
Only on Desperate Housewives do two or three people get murdered per year.
Unless something drastically changes, the 8th season will be the end, since the network announced it directly. Who is saying there is a possibility for a 9th season?
What is wrong with the program people at ABC? It has always been a 3rd tier network and it will continue that way until ABC gets a program person who understands what the public wants. ABC cancelled Philly after one season and now they are killing Desperate Housewives no doubt to replace it with one of thoses trashy reality shows which are a lot cheaper to produce. With a mindset such as this, ABC will continue to remain at the bottem of the food chain.
Desperate Housewives is my favorite tv series. I really hope it continues on to have a ninth season and I will enjoy every minute of it whether it does or does'nt.
Omg please make more season's. The only reason i pay for cable every mouth is because of that show. I really think yall should reconsider after reading everyone comments and go for one more or even four more season's. I also think yall should do a movie with them. Because i don't know who made the movie of sex in the city but i never like that show EVER the women were boring and had poor acting. Desperate Housewives needs a movie after them. them girls have talent. I hate that this is that last season. I am watch every episode every Sunday. I mite Cry at the end.
I've enjoyed the show and it's characters and feel it's had an amazing 8 year run! Glad it's ending on a good note!
