You heard me right, folks. ABC's hit Desperate Housewives is getting a spin-off, and you'll get to see it sooner than you think. As in, next year. During Desperate Housewives.

Still don't know what I'm talking about? Let me explain. Marc Cherry, creator of Wisteria Lane and all its wonderful inhabitants, has been recruited to do commercials. These won't just be your average commercials, however. Promoting Sprint, these 35-second spots will air during the commercial breaks of the drama, and will form a storyline parallel to, but not interal to, the actul show itself. Crazy, right?

It's all part of the plot against TiVo. “They’re kind of like the old Taster’s Choice commercials, but we added a lot of wicked dark humor, murder and adultery and betrayal,” Cherry said of the commercials, which are a ploy to get watchers to lay a finger off the fast-forward button.

Executive producer Sabrina Wind assured watchers that “It was shot on our set, with our crew, and written by our writers."

The show will feature absolutely none of the main cast, so don't go expecting Teri Hatcher to walk around talking about her Sprint cell phone. The minisodes will feature an all new cast (Rebecca Staab and David Chisum) who just happen to drop a lot of product placement. Sort of like season two of Heroes.

The cast of the minisodes won't have much of a role in the main series, but they will make appearances as background extras throughout the season, starting with the first episode (during which the first minisode will also air) which premieres September 27 on ABC.

I rather enjoyed the slight dig at Heroes in this article. Shame on me.
