Dexter Season 4 Trailer Hits The Web!

87062_dexter-stars-and-real-life-couple-jennifer-carpenter-and-michael-c-hall-hit-the-dexter-photocall-in-madrid-spainDark passenger indeed! The first look at Dexter season 4, strategically released to coalesce with the Comic Con buzz, is offering netizens an unnervingly stark look at the contrasts of Dexter’s life post-marriage - and it is chilling. If you were worried about Dexter becoming a mundane family man, worry no more. One of the themes of Dexter Season 4 seems to be that the Dark Passenger - Dexter’s pet name for his murderous Id - doesn’t like captivity, a necessary consequence of Dexter’s commitment to family life.

Dexter does not seem to be dipping in and out of family life at his convenience, he seems immersed in a Khafkaesque amalgam of the rigorous reality of parent/husband-hood and the murderous hunger of the psychopath. John Lithgow comes across as an absolute presence. Lithgow has played this sort of character before, but he can drop the temperature in the room with this one. And as one may suspect, it appears that Dexter may be a bit infatuated with Lithgow’s “Trinity Killer,” in particular with the fact that he is, by Dexter’s estimation, the worlds best.

So will Dexter seek out Trinity as a big game kill, or as a mentor? From the trailer for the season, we see that Dexter is going to be occupied with a ‘B’ story - as he always is, and Trinity does not seem to be the sort of Kindred spirit that Miguel was last year - in the beginning. Regardless of what Dexter wants, it looks like Trinity may be the one who decides the tone of their meeting.

Finding out how it will all turn out, though, is the fun part, and from the looks of this trailer Season 4 of Dexter will be that special brand of creepy, psychologically challenging, and stylish fun we’ve come to expect. Hurry up September!
