Naomi's Helicopter?

I was just watching the episode where Naomi first parachutes on to the island (Catch 22). While Desmond, Jin, Hurley, and Charlie are watching from the beach, they hear a helicopter that sounds like it is having engine trouble. There is a big splash in the ocean, then later Naomi's strobe light is seen coming down over the jungle.

My question is, was there a helicopter that crashed?

If so, this must have been a different helicopter than the one Lapidus piloted. (I don't remember there being two helicopters on the Kahana when Michael came on board.)

If there were two helicopters, who was the pilot for the first one, Naomi herself? If there was just one helicopter, did they fake a "crash" ... or did they just dump something into the ocean?

If this has been answered somewhere here in the forums or in the show itself, I don't remember having seen it.

I always assumed that it was the same helicopter that brought Daniel and Charolette.. But now that you said something... Maybe it wasn't? Maybe Naomi had her own helicopter and flew it herself...

Watching the next couple episodes, Naomi specifically tells the Losties that her helicopter was going down and she bailed out, before it crashed into the sea. That must have been a lie (she also said that Penny sent her to find Desmond).

However, if there was only one helicopter, and Lapidus was the only pilot (perhaps other than Naomi), then he must have been flying the helicopter and participated in the "fake" crash when Naomi bailed out.

Did Lapidus ever talk about this event?

he never talked about it... no one ever did... What was the timeline again? Naomi fell to the ground, how many days until they found Daniel? And did Daniel ever say that he was on the chopper with Naomi? I think it was a few days later that they found Daniel right?

I think Daniel and the science team did arrive within a week of Naomi's landing (it seems longer because of the overlapping season 3 and 4).

But there were two distinct chopper trips. The science team came AFTER Jack radioed for the rescue.

That's true... I think Naomi had her own chopper... She seemed like she could pilot a chopper.. My question is she was there to find Ben, yet she had the pic of Des... And knew Des (widmore obviously told her about Des, but why.. And why tell Naomi to lie that Penny was the one to have the freighter.) It seemed like Naomi was there for a different reason since she was by herself. And then Daniel and Miles came with the pic of Ben... But that's just stretching it since we know they had nothing to do with Penny... But why have the pic of Des???? I know they were hiding what they really were there for, but still that was wierd

Similarly weird is that if she knew how to pilot a helicopter, what did Lapidus add to the group? Why would they have bothered loading a 2nd helicopter? Did they have a reasonable expectation that one of them would crash?

I still think there was only one helicopter. Does anyone remember seeing the freighter prior to its arrival at the island with more than one helicopter on board?

Exactly!

The helicopter crashed. That is a fact. But they don't mention it at all. They just leave it hanging. We're left to assume the helicopter didn't crash but Naomi's comments about it going down say otherwise.

Naomi said she was hired by Penny. And because of Penny's comments herself that she doesn't know a Naomi, we're left to assume that Naomi is lying. What if she wasn't though??

Answer: Naomi came from an alternate universe where she was hired by Penny to find Desmond but because of the island, Naomi ended up switching universes with the other Naomi. The same thing with the dead doctor which is why he showed up dead before his murder was even committed.

In Michael's flashback, he over heard Naomi talking to Frank, saying she would go first. Also when Desmond, Charlie and the others heard the crash and found her, one of them said that maybe she bailed out,like in a jet but it's not possible from a helicopter. She must have had some other way.
