Don't let the news about Amy and Rory leaving Doctor Who distract you from the fact that there's a Christmas special coming up! "The Doctor, The Widow, and the Wardrobe," will air on Christmas Day in both the United States and the United Kingdom. Too perhaps remind us about the Doctor's latest outing, the BBC have added several rather spoilery new pictures to their website, featuring images from the special.
For those of you who can't see the photos, it appears that the photos are taken from the episode's climactic scene, which sees the Wooden King and Queen menacing the Doctor and his new friends. Wood, if you'll remember, is the one thing that the Doctor's sonic screwdriver is powerless against. And, as you see from these photos, that will result in him getting his hands dirty -- and burned.
It's hard to tell what exactly is going on with the photos, but it looks like the wooden characters want to put a glowing golden crown on members of the family the Doctor befriends (not that kind of golden crown, Game of Thrones fans). The crown -- or halo, or whatever it is -- does appear to be very hot, as the Doctor finds out when he seizes hold of the thing and winces in pain.
Also seen in this batch of photos is a very big structure -- maybe a vehicle or a base, which is perched in the strangely sparkling evergreen forest. You can bet that I have no idea what's going on here, but I can't wait to find out.
Doctor Who airs its Christmas special on December 25 in both the US and the UK. Check back afterward for a review of what goes down with these wooden villains in the winter wonderland.
