The third episode of Doctor Who's fifth season (which airs tomorrow in the UK) is called "Victory of the Daleks." Of course, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who the main villains of the episode are. No, the most interesting part about tomorrow night's episode looks to be the setting, which is World War II Britain. Prime Minister Winston Churchill is using the Daleks as soldiers against the Axis powers. Or are the Daleks using him?
As we saw in some sneak peeks, when the Doctor arrives, he and Churchill are old friends, engaging in various japes and in-jokes. But he and Churchill will clash over these Daleks, which Churchill is using to win the war -- and who the Doctor knows have ulterior motives.
Here are some promotional photos which have been released for the episode, which include shots of the Doctor, Amy, Churchill, and several other characters specific to the episode -- one of whom obviously isn't who he says he is -- at all.
The Doctor has been summoned by an old friend, but in the Cabinet War Rooms far below the streets of blitz-torn London, it's his oldest enemy he finds waiting for him, as the time-travelling adventures continue. The Daleks are back – but can Winston Churchill be in league with them?
The Doctor is played by Matt Smith and Amy Pond by Karen Gillan.
Doctor Who is simulcast on the BBC HD channel – the BBC's High Definition channel, available through Freesat, Sky and Virgin Media.
The episode will air next Saturday, April 17, in the UK. For US viewers who haven't already seen "The Eleventh Hour," that episode will premiere on BBC America on the 17 as well. That means "Victory of the Daleks" will air in the U.S. on May 1.
