As soon as I finished watching "The Eleventh Hour," the series 5 premiere of Doctor Who, I immediately knew that I would be adding the following season to my collection. I didn't have any of the other seasons of Who primarily because they were way too expensive for my budget, but series 5 would definitely make me want to change that.I began anxiously waiting for the release date of the DVD box set so that I could add it proudly onto my shelf.
Now, we have a release date for the set. It'll be hitting shelves in the UK on Monday, November 8, while in the US the set will adhere to the Tuesday tradition and be released the following day, November 9.
The six-disc set will also feature additional bonus scenes that were filmed exclusively for the release, set inside the TARDIS featuring the Doctor and Amy in-between episodes. The set will also feature a video diary filmed by Matt Smith throughout filming, which I suspect will be a lot of fun, as well as "cut-down" episodes of Doctor Who Confidential and the Monster Files included with the UK's volumed releases of the series.
The sets are retailing in the UK for £69.99 (on DVD) and £79.99 (on Blu-ray). In the U.S., they're actually a bit cheaper, costing only $55.99 for the DVD and $62.99 for the Blu-ray. They're not the cheapest sets ever, but at least they're a slightly cheaper than previous sets.
The box art for the series has also been released, and in my opinion, it's much better than the previous art for the series. Sure, it is pretty much the wallpaper the BBC released (plus the TARDIS), but it's still pretty sleek. I wouldn't doubt that it has a sort of iridescence to it as previous sets have had.
