Stephen Fry wants to write 'Doctor Who'

Chances are, you've heard of Stephen Fry. Maybe it's because he was part of a comedic duo with House star Hugh Laurie in the early 1990's with A Bit of Fry and Laurie. You might know him as Dr. Gordon Wyatt on FOX's procedural Bones, or for his supporting role in the 2006 film V for Vendetta. But Fry wants to have another reason for recognition: a writer on the famed UK television program Doctor Who.

At the National Television Awards, Fry professed that he would love to work on a future episode of the show, which is slated to begin airing its fifth season in the spring, having recently undergone a leadership change from Russel T. Davies to new showrunner Steven Moffat.

It's not the first time he's been mentioned in the same sentence with Doctor Who. He was offered a chance to write an episode for the series during David Tennant's time as the Doctor. "The window passed, and I never really got round to it," he told the BBC. "But I'm very happy to have had the experience of thinking about it."

Now that Tennant's Doctor has regenerated into Matt Smith's incarnation, Fry states he'd love an opportunity to write for Smith as well. "I look forward so much to seeing Matt Smith and I'm sure he's going to be wonderful. If I get time it'll be a thrill, I can't think of anything nicer."

However, Fry's contributions would have to come in during the sixth series or later, due to the fact that writing for the fifth series has already been scheduled out and has commenced. Fry has also reportedly "switched off connections with the outside world" in order to work on the second volume of his autobiography, a follow-up to his 1997 tome Moab Is My Washpot.

Series five of Doctor Who will begin airing at a still-unspecified date in spring of this year.

I love everything by Stephen Fry, he's writing a new book at the moment – can't wait till it's published! :)

He did actually write a script for series two, it was called "The 1920s" and got to at least its first draft.Unfortunately, though, the team realised it was going to be too expensive for that part of the series (it was planned as episode eleven) and so Matthew Graham's "Fear Her" was brought forward and replaced it. The plan was to include it in series three – but, when the time came, Fry was too busy to do the rewrites (including rewriting Rose's part for Martha) and so the script was dropped. If he comes on board for series six, there's a script already written that he could pick up again.

Man, I sooooooooo can't wait for The Doctor to return. I didn't think I could take the regeneration, but I am soo hyped now and Easter can't get here soon enough! As for Stephen Fry? If he wants to write for Who then dammit, he's an Ace in my book!
