Torchwood Star John Barrowman Wants Doctor Who Movie with David Tennant

John Barrowman, the star of the BBC/Starz series Torchwood, hasn't appeared on Doctor Who since his cameo appearance in "The End of Time," which saw the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) setting his character up with a potential new boyfriend, Alonso (Russell Tovey). While Captain Jack Harkness has returned since then as the lead in the fourth season of Torchwood, subtitled Miracle Day, he's been conspicuously absent from Matt Smith's tenure on Doctor Who. Strangely enough, though, it doesn't seem like Barrowman much wants to be with Smith's Doctor.

“Now if it was Doctor Who with David playing the Doctor – I’m going to get in trouble for saying this – I’d happily do a film with him," Barrowman told RTE.

While such a movie will probably never happen, it's interesting to note that Barrowman would apparently rather appear alongside Tennant (with whom he has appeared numerous times) than Matt Smith, who has held the role for two years now.

If we are going to see Captain Jack back on Doctor Who, it's most likely that he would be back for the show's fiftieth anniversary special, which will be airing sometime in 2013. Rumored to be making a reappearance in Tenth Doctor David Tennant, though showrunner Steven Moffat is notorious for keeping such surprises very secret.

What do you think? Would you like to see a movie with Barrowman and Tennant, or would you rather see Barrowman appear alongside Smith in the future?

I would love to see Captain Jack back on Doctor Who! I love John in everything hes been in [including Shark Attack 3: Megalodon] he is not only my hero but my god! Tennant is my favorite doctor so far. So to have them both back would be amazing! I will be there for the 50th Anniversary!

I agree, I'd like–no LOVE–to see both happen. John would have been in the episode "A Good Man Goes to War" had he not been busy filming Miracle Day. I'd love to see Jack's reaction to yet another face of the Doctor, but also see him with the Doctor he spent the most time with.

    Tennant. By far.

If he was in an episode with Smith, that would just be a regular Doctor Who episode, and we KNOW more of those will be coming out.
However, if he was in a movie with Tennant, that would mean that there was going to be a Doctor Who movie with Ten, which would be amazing. I miss him more than anything, and so new material would be fantastic.

Unless they do a multi-Doctor scenario (which they did for the 20th anniversary), they need to have him with Matt Smith's Doctor. To do a movie just with the past Doctor would completely undermine the current regime which, despite propaganda to the contrary, is very popular. I liked Tennant tremendously, but Smith is the Doctor now and Tennant never scored a BAFTA nomination the way Smith has. Also, much as I'd love to see Jack Harkness and Rose Tyler and Donna Noble return to Doctor Who in some way, they were part of another era. Moffat's era has created its own family – Amy, Rory, Vastra, Idris, Jenny, Canton Delaware, and River Song (who doesn't count as part of the Davies era because Moffat created her). If they can get Jack to return, great (according to Moffat he was going to appear in A Good Man Goes to War but the filming of Miracle Day prevented this), but I'm quite happy to see him left in the past (not counting future Torchwood adventures, of course!).

I thought I was the only one who is not a fan of the new Doctor. But i think it is the convoluted stories more than Matt and his companions The stories actually bore me. Love River, Amy and Rory Barrowman is an all time favorite. Didn't have Starz so didn't see Mircle Day. Pity. Ten and Jack in a movie. I'm in.

It's obvious how they would have David Tennant's 10 in it…10.2! 10.2 and Rose with their lives, and Jack and the Torchwood crew, plus Mickey/Martha…and a loophole to get Donna's memory back without killing her. Wilfred, Pete & Jackie, hell I'd even go for Harriet Jones, for MP for Flydale North and PM of England. Too bad we can't have Sarah Jane back as well.

11, Amy, and Rory can come too…but I think the new series has become too convoluted. And I don't like River.

I'd love to see a Doctor Who movie with Tennant/Barrowman. And I'd love to see Barrowman appear with every new Doctor :)

  8. bbundy09 says:

I really think John would be amazing with Matt Smith, but seeing him back with Tennant could work too….heck, bring him back at the Anniversary when all the doctors are there….you don't even want to know what I'm thinking lol

  9. powerpuff says:

Barrowman and Tennant <3 matt sucks

  10. SJMC says:

I think the meta-crisis Doctor was created as a way for TPTB to bring Tennant back into Dr. Who without stepping on the 11th or future Doctors, so I can see how a movie could be made with Tennant and Barrowman.

If Barrowman could sell anyone on the idea, I would hope for Davies and Gardner to be at the helm. Moffat is turning my beloved show into a bloody soap opera. I haven't stopped watching, but Smith certainly hasn't captured my interest the way Eccleston and Tennant did.

It's true that Smith scored a BAFTA nomination; it's also true that Tennant won in 2007 at the BAFTA Cymru Awards. Tennant's long list of nominations and awards, both for his portrayal of Dr. Who and his other work, speak for themselves.

I'd go with Tennent every time – Smith just doesn't do it for me. I've stopped watching :(

ugh…i would love to see jack and the doctor appearing side by side again…but lately the doctor who stories have been so dull and boring that there is really no point…

  13. Adya says:

I will always be a Tennant girl. I believe he was the best Doctor, and the stories were just so much better. I would LOVE to see Ten.2, Rose, Captain, Martha, Donna (if somehow she could remember her past…) oh bloody hell, all of the old companions and stars, in a movie.. I believe it would be brilliant, and would not in any way mess up what they currently have going on. For me, I feel the way they ended Tennant as the Doctor left a huge cliffhanger, and I'd love for them to fix that! haha Wishful thinking?

  14. Jessy says:

It took me forever to get to like Matt Smith, and now that i kinda do…I will totally throw him into the streets in a second as long as my 10th Doctor comes back!! Soo I totally love you Captain Jack for saying such a thing and I do hope that there is a movie with all of the 10th Doctor’s people!!xD
    Viva la David Tennant fandom!!!

  15. ThetaSigma says:

I have been a lifelong fan of all the Doctors and think David Tennant is one of the very best Doctors to ever grace the TV screens. So a full-blown movie with him back as the Tenth Doctor alongside Captain Jack Harkness woould totally rock.
