It was only this weekend that sci-fi legends Joss Whedon and J.J. Abrams shared the stage at Comic-Con. TVOvermind was there, and you can read a synopsis of the panel here. Now, Joss mentioned that his already-cult-classic Dollhouse was cancelled because it was “trying to fit a square peg into a round hole," and the cancellation was perhaps spurned by "more of a cable mentality" on his part. That means he wanted more creative freedom, and FOX didn't give it to him. Instead, Dollhouse's high-concept life was cut short after only two years.
Still, that doesn't mean you won't be able to watch those two seasons again and again and again thanks to the magic of Digital Video Discs (or Blu-rays). It's recently been announced that the second sesason of the series will be hitting shelves on October 12, 2010. That's still a fairly long way away, but you might as well pre-order while the copies are still fresh, right?
You can do that through the links below. Personally, I'll be skipping Dollhouse or order Firefly, which I've heard is a much superior show. However, as a new Whedonite, I'm probably the only person left who doesn't have a copy of Firefly on my shelf. That'll be fixed, trust me. In the meantime, you can order Dollhouse, The Complete Second Season on Blu-Ray or DVD below. The DVD (which curiously is listed as having only one disc) runs for $31.99, while the also one-disc Blu-ray is running for $41.99. Guess the high prices of TV DVDs isn't the materials that make them after all.
