Duck Dynasty 5.10 Review: “Stand by Mia”

duck dynasty9

The season 5 finale of Duck Dynasty was in the true spirit of the show. It was heart-warming, entertaining and hilarious as always. So for the last time this season, let’s jump right in, shall we?

To round out the roller coaster season five, Jase’s daughter Mia is having surgery (her 4th, but she has “Jase Robertson nerves of steel”). When her parents ask her what she wants to do before her surgery, she says she wants to have a family party! That’s adorable (and NOT what I would’ve picked)! She wants her dad’s cousins to come and to see them wrestle. Cutest thing ever? Pretty much.

Willie, Jase, Martin and Godwin are charged with setting up a tent in the woods for the party. Willie doesn’t participate because he’s convinced Korie will hate it. Long story short…she doesn’t. While these guys work on that, Phil and Jep are going hunting for ducks to put in Miss Kay’s jumbalaya. Of course, the other boys are very upset. Why does Jep get to go hunting and they don’t? Not cool.

Across the woods, Jep and Phil are joined by Phil’s sister and brother-in-law. Gordon (the brother in law) is straight laced and a pink (watermelon?) polo shirt wearing guy. So obviously, he and Phil don’t get along. Jep, however, has a great time listening to the two of them swap insults while they hunt. Although Gordon is largely a failure at hunting, he does finally get a duck.

Back at the party set-up, Si has awoken from his nap in Jase’s truck and joins the crew amidst a discussion about catchphrases. What follows that discussion is the best Si Robertson montage ever, which is comprised entirely of famous catchphrases. Brilliant. The men make progress on getting the party ready as the main piece is delivered….a wrestling ring. Willie, Jase and the boys have a blast wrestling each other in the ring, which reinforces the maturity level of the men running such a prominent American business. But, nonetheless, it’s hilarious!

As the episode winds down, the remaining extended family members show up for what makes for a HUGE family reunion. Since the party was for Mia, they let her give an adorable speech to everyone before they ate and prayed. It was a very heartwarming and touching ending to what has been a really fun season of Duck Dynasty. They followed Mia into her surgery at the end of the episode and it went very well (since I know you were all dying to kn0w).

It has been a pleasure to cover this show for you all this season! To round out the post, here are some of my favorite quotes from the episode:

“Bang Zone!”- Alan Robertson’s catchphrase

“Put it on the card, but I got cash too!”- Willie Robertson’s catchphrase

“When he shows up in pink, there’s something not right about that”- Phil Robertson

“Kay always says cleanliness is Godliness, which is a weird thing for a hoarder to say”- Phil Robertson

“You do smell like a dragon fart”- Jep

Jase: “It’s better than a bouncy house”

Godwin: “Nothing’s better than a bouncy house”

“Wrestling to rednecks is like a soap opera. They’re addicted to it.”- Jase Robertson

Well that’s it folks! My last favorite quotes section of the season. I hope you all enjoyed reading my reviews as much as I enjoyed writing them! Everybody stay happy happy happy!
