Emily Owens M.D. 1.09 Preview: Larping in the ER
The ER at Denver Memorial has already seen some pretty memorable patients during the short run of Emily Owens M.D. There have been cases of undetected lupus, cardiac tamponade, and organ transplants gone bad, with topics like arranged marriage, surrogacy, and addiction being touched on in the process. A large amount of Emily's focus may be on the social strata in the hospital, but she's certainly getting use of her medical degree and earning experience that will help her career in the future. However, I don't think even the most prepared of type-A personalities could prepare for what's coming next.
On the next episode of Emily Owens M.D., the team at Denver Memorial will be dealing with, in addition to a businesswoman not willing to slow down following a heart attack, a larper, or someone who participates in live action role-playing. In this case, the larper is a man dressed as an elf king, which weirds Will out and will test Emily's bedside manner. She might be an intelligent woman who has gotten better at relating to her patients on a personal level, but Emily still finds herself being judgmental of those with different priorities than she. If she can treat the larper without making him feel inadequate or freakish, it'll show the growth she needs to exhibit to make herself stand out from the other first-years.
Elsewhere on Emily Owens M.D., Emily heads out on a date with a friend of Cassandra's, but the date ends pretty abruptly. Although Emily isn't exactly bursting with self-confidence or social skills, this reeks of being the work of Cassandra, who continues to do anything and everything in her power to bring Emily down. Either she set Emily up with a guy that was obviously wrong for her and sat back to watch her squirm, or she found a guy compatible with Emily and gets him to dump her in public, thereby embarrassing her and making her more undesirable to Will.
