Although Dr. Emily Owens has yet to find her niche at Denver Memorial, things are slowly coming into place for the first-year. She's made a good friend in Tyra, things with Will have decidedly calmed down, and she even managed to get a non-qualified compliment from Dr. Bandari, a decided change from the bumbling way her adulthood kicked off. Coming up on Emily Owens M.D., though, there's something threatening the relative stability at the hospital and, indirectly, the first opportunity for Emily to stop, take a breath, and simply relax.

Tuesday, January 1st - "Emily and...the Car and the Cards"
When a female car accident victim is brought into the ER everyone immediately blames her boyfriend for causing the accident, bringing up painful memories for Will (Justin Hartley). Emily (Mamie Gummer) discovers that her cancer patient refuses to undergo surgery, fearing that reconstructive surgery will end her career and relationship. Meanwhile, Will is forced to make a difficult decision to using his girlfriend Cassandra's (Aja Naomi King) studying method over Emily's legendary flashcards for the upcoming exam, making Emily ultra competitive.
Tuesday, January 15th - "Emily and...the Social Experiment"
After a year long absence, Dr. A.J. Aquino (guest star J.R. Ramirez, "House of Payne") returns to Denver Memorial, but before he can rejoin the staff, the Chief insists that he make peace with Dr. Bandari (Necar Zadegan). Emily is tasked with treating a patient who claims to be a psychic, and is convinced that her tarot cards predict her own impending death. Elsewhere, Cassandra and Dr. Bandari treat a patient who needs a lung transplant, but Micah's (Michael Rady) discovery of a new medical issue leaves the patient with a tough decision. Meanwhile, Emily decides to test her theory that Will was jealous of her recent date, so Tyra (Kelly McCreary) offers to teach Emily how to flirt.
