My Take on the 2011 Emmy Nominations: Who Got Snubbed?

Check out the full list of Emmy nominations here.

The Emmy nominations are out, and while some of my favorites made it onto the roster, more didn't. Let's take a look at who I think got snubbed.

Fringe was always a long-shot show for Best Drama series (it wasn't nominated), but the biggest slap in the face for the show is the lack of nomination for John Noble. The Emmy buzz around him has been steady since Fringe' stellar third season, and many assumed he would make the nomination. He's definitely deserving of a win. Without him, though, the Best Supporting Actor award should without a question go to nominee Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones).

Anna Torv, also from Fringe, was snubbed for Best Actress as well, which is a shame considering the depth she brought to her roles. Plural. She played multiple, very different, incarnations of Olivia Dunham throughout the season, and never once did her role swapping feel gimmicky. She was the standout actress of the fall season, in my opinion, and while she was a long shot, it's a shame that her co-star Joshua Jackson didn't get the opportunity to announce her name.

On the flipside, I'm pleasantly surprised that Timothy Olyphant got the Best Actor in a Drama nomination. A lot of people were thinking he wouldn't get it, and I was doubtful myself. However, he's definitely deserving of the nomination, even though he's probably a long shot to win.

And did the Academy voters not see the episode "Baelor" from the first season of Game of Thrones? I'm thinking they didn't, because if they had seen it, they would have been rushing to give Sean Bean his nomination for Best Actor in a Drama. At least Game of Thrones wasn't snubbed in the two other major categories, Best Drama and Best Supporting Actor (Peter Dinklage rightfully got the nomination).

Also snubbed was Community, who didn't get the Best Comedy nomination or any acting nominations. The show's completely great, and I'm disappointed that not even Joel McHale managed to get a Best Actor in a Comedy Award. That category did get something right, though, by nominating Louis C.K., the absolutely riotous star of FX's Louie.

Overall, I'm really sort of disappointed with this year's Emmy nominations. A distinct lack of Fringe is the most disappointing aspect of the whole thing, especially considering the act that most people were rooting for John Noble to get the nomination. Game of Thrones and Justified, for the most part, got what they deserved with a smattering of nominees, though the exclusion of Community from the list is inexcusable.

Will you watch the awards ceremony on September 18? I will, begrudgingly, if only to support Game of Thrones and Justified. For Fringe and Community fans, I can only shrug sadly and say, "Maybe next year."

NICK OFFERMAN! It's so wrong that the brilliance that is Ron Swanson went unrecognized, as did the genius writers of Parks and Rec.

OUTRAGES! JOHN NOBLE AND ANNA TORV SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOMINATED.

I guess it's true what Anna said in multiple interviews: Fringe is made for the fans.

To the cast and crew of Fringe: The fans love you, keep up the good work. Can't wait for Sep 23rd.

Notable exclusions for me: Nick Offerman (Parks & Recreation) and Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones).

Happy about Game of Thrones and Peter Dinklage getting nominations.

John Noble definitely got robbed. I never thought Anna Torv was any super-great shakes as an actress (decent, to be sure, but not someone I would give an Emmy) until I realized that she's doing everything on Fringe with an absolutely flawless American accent.

Two words, though: Breaking Bad. One more: SHAFTED!
