It's the age-old fight between old loves and new loves, except this time, I'm torn between my two favorite television shows!
We're still a couple of weeks away before the Emmy nominations are announced, but with ballots being due today, I'm increasingly growing unsteady about where I stand. Two shows are battling in my heart for who I want to root for: Fringe or Game of Thrones?
It's not like either of them really have a shot at the top prize, the Best Drama award. Fringe might get nominated (I sure hope so!), and Game of Thrones most likely will, but neither will likely triumph over Emmy favorite Mad Men. That show is just too good -- and too popular with Emmy voters. No, there's only one category that I think both have legitimate shots in, and I'm really torn here. The category I'm talking about, of course, is Best Supporting Actor.

On the Fringe side of the spectrum, we've got John Noble, who delivered some of the best acting I've ever seen with the third season of Fringe. Portraying tragically mad scientist Walter Bishop and his morally dubious alt-universe counterpart Walternate, Noble brought a depth to both roles that would almost seem impossible -- especially in some cases when he played both roles in the same episode! Besides, an Emmy win for Noble wouldn't just be for a third season; it'd be all the wonderful things he did in previous seasons, with episodes like "Peter" (still one of the best episodes of television ever) and "White Tulip" (my personal favorite). It seems like the choice is clear, right? John Noble all the way!
Well, not so fast. Game of Thrones came along, and with it brought Peter Dinklage in the role of Tyrion Lannister. As "the Imp," Dinklage was gripping; he brought comedy to the series with his sarcastic comments and humorous japes, but he also brought a sense of sincerity once the viewer learns that this sarcasm is a defense mechanism because he's an outcast, even from his own family. Watching Dinklage, as Tyrion, scheme his way out of various deadly situations was one of the most rewarding television events I'd seen in a while.

And therein lies my dilemma! Who do I support? Am I gunning for my old favorite John Noble to get the win, or do I turn my favor to the new but just-as-able contender, Peter Dinklage? It's a tough choice since both seem likely to get the nomination, and it's one I'll struggle to make as the Emmys grow closer.
Who are you supporting in the Best Supporting Actor race? Noble, Dinklage, or someone else entirely? Sound off in the comments below!
John all the way.
"Fringe" should win for EVERYTHING! But it won't. :(
i will support noble he's performance on the first season of fringe was already one of the best on television yet he still manage to get better with each new season really he deserve that award . peter does a great job as well but noble is my personal favorite beside peter is gonna get many opportunities to shine in the second season and the third one if the show go that far
I have to go for John Noble. 3 seasons of him being absolutely brilliant as Walter Bishop and Walternate, it's unbelievable he hasn't been nominated once! Thank God for the Critics Choice Awards this year to be honnest.
Dinklage has done an amazing job as well but it just doesn't compare for me.
Game Of Thrones for Best Drama series though – if it came to that. Those 10eps did more for me than Fringe ever did this season – and perhaps even the previous ones.
its cool i mean Game of Thorns
I LOVED Peter Dinklage as Tyrion…but John Noble has been waiting for 3 years!!! Let's give the man what he deserves! Also…I fear this would be the only chance for Fringe to win something big!
If John Noble can beak into supporting actor then I'll root for him to win it. Fortunately, Fringe and Noble likely won't be nominated so problem solved (Game and Dinklage aren't quite locks, but have a pretty good chance)
As much as I like Fringe and think that John Noble is a great actor, I'd vote for Game Of Thrones and Dinklage.
In a perfect world, John Noble would win this year. Then, next year perhaps Peter Dinklage.
Noble's 3 years of outstanding work outweigh the 10 eps of Dinklage. As a reader of A Song Of Ice And Fire, and given what I've seen of Dinklage, there is no doubt in my mind that Dinklage will win this award next year. It's a lock.
My vote goes to Fringe!
Game of Thrones' is to slow TV show. Not so bad but also not so good.
Dinklage all the way. I love Fringe and Noble's great but Game of Thrones and Tyrion have been TV highlight of the year.
john noble for the emmy! his work has been outstanding for 3 years and he deserves it. i do love game of thrones and peter dinklage-but i think he'll have other chances to win!
I'd like to see both nominated and then I'm pulling for Dinklage, although I wouldn't be unhappy if Noble won.
Peter Dinklage for the Emmy Yeah.
PERFECT Tyrion Lannister
John Noble. He was brilliant even when he was only playing one version of the character during the first two seasons, and he’s been even more amazing this season. It’s time he was finally recognized. Peter Dinklage is a fine actor (I’ve been a fan since The Station Agent), but this should be John Noble’s year
I love them both but I think I need John Noble to win the Emmy this year. Fringe isn't as likely to be around for too much longer, but Peter Dinklage's part on GOT is only going to get bigger and give him even more material to work with. I would think it will be even harder to justify giving the award to someone other than Dinklage in future seasons. Meanwhile, Jon Noble really deserves it for the work he's done so far on Fringe. I'd like him to win it now while he still has the chance.
Gotta go with Peter Dinklage….played his role at Tyrion Lannister flawlessly, better than I expected having read the books! Also, not exactly sure how the Emmy nominations work and all, but for those that have read the book would Peter Dinklage even be considered as a supporting actor in the upcoming books/seasons. Tyrion would play more of a lead role IMO, and in which case not sure how stiff his competition would be against other lead actors.
Wow , i cannot compare fringe to game of thrones. Game of thrones is just 190% greater. Its different, intriguing and fun, very unpredictable if you haven't read the book.Game of thrones is a much welcome change from the normal sit- coms n fictions that are currently being aired. 2011 i vote for game of thrones and house my absolute favorites!!!
