Watch out Cookie, because the next Mama in the Lyon family is headed your way in tonight’s all new Empire. For months Anika Calhoun has kept her pregnancy by the youngest Lyon under wraps, but that bombshell is ready to explode for all the Lyons to see.
Let’s briefly recap how we got here. Anika was Lucious’s right hand girl at Empire and at home until Cookie came back into the picture. When Cookie and Lucious rekindled their flame, Anika betrayed Lucious to his competitor and their engagement was swiftly ended. After that debacle Anika was left with nothing. She had no job, no partner, no allies. So she went lower than she should have gone, and slept with Lucious’s son Hakeem. Anika briefly had a place with Cookie’s company Lyon Dynasty in addition to her fling with Hakeem, but she lost everything again. At the lowest point she has ever been Anika found out she was pregnant. It’s unclear what her intentions or feelings have been about this pregnancy. She’s been taking care of herself, but has not breathed a word to anyone about the baby, not even best friend Rhonda Lyon, who until recently was also carrying the next generation of the Lyon family.
Since his dalliance with Anika, Hakeem has worked hard to build himself into a CEO worthy of Empire. He also recently became engaged to his girlfriend Laura, who is genuinely sweet, if a bit naive about what she is getting herself into with this family. If kids were apart of his life plans, it certainly wasn’t like this. As seen in the clips below, the entire Lyon family finds out about Anika’s pregnancy in tonight’s episode. Will they be accepting of the situation, or smell blood in the water and act accordingly?
