Apparently, Bill Murray stopped a scene in the middle of shooting, telling Lucy Liu that she couldn’t act. This enraged Liu, and she immediately attacked Murray. As she started to throw punches, security got involved and separated the actors. They continued to verbally abuse one another for the rest of the day. Bill Murray’s lack of involvement in Charlie’s Angels 2 can be attributed to his feud with Lucy Liu.
Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey
The famous comedian and illustrious actor starred together in Batman Forever, playing the Riddler and Two-Face respectively. The duo was great onscreen, acting with a distinctly symbiotic feel, feeding off of the other’s energy. It was a great effect for the screen. However, these two despised each other off set. Heidi Swedberg and the Rest of Seinfeld
Heidi Swedberg played Susan Ross on the celebrated sitcom Seinfeld up until 1997. She was a pretty great character onscreen, providing plenty of laughs for the pioneering show. Her character was eventually killed off in an accident involving poisonous envelopes — and it was because the rest of the cast hated working with her. Swedberg was always on her own tangents, with her own ideas for the direction of the show. Though this was likely a product of her considerable ambition, this pattern of behavior made it nearly impossible to work efficiently with the actress. The final straw came after she did scenes with Jerry Seinfeld and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who also found it incredibly difficult to work with the actress.

Sex and the City co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall haven’t had the best relationship over the years. Most of their conflicts can be contributed to 90-hour work weeks, the high-pressure industry they are in, and the overall exhaustion that comes with being an actress. The two talented actresses have recently rekindled an old feud. Sarah Jessica Parker wanted to make a Sex and the City 3 movie. However, Kim Cattrall did not want to reprise her old role. So, the film was eventually put on indefinite hold. Since then, Parker has been making some references to Cattrall standing in the way of the film. Cattrall replied, saying that Parker could have been “nicer” in the way she was talking about it. Plus, she had been saying ‘no’ on the movie for months — and they never stopped hounding her, trying to get a ‘yes’. We can’t really blame Cattrall for being a bit upset.
Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams
Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams played the main couple in the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ romantic classic The Notebook. The two acting professionals were fantastic together on-set, and eventually even had an off-set romance of their own. However, they didn’t always get along quite so well. The two had their occasional slip-ups and disagreements while they were filming The Notebook. But one day it got so bad that Ryan Gosling actually requested another actress to fill in for McAdams, saying that he was “just not getting anything from this”. Thankfully, the director of the show managed to smooth over their differences, giving us the classic film we have today.
David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson
Agents Scully and Mulder are great together, solving supernatural cases and finding whatever truth might be out there. On-screen, the two have a good (but complicated) relationship, albeit with a few disagreements here and there. Their real-life counterparts are somewhat similar. According to Anderson, there were periods of time where the stars didn’t even talk to one another. Sometimes the tension between them got too intense, but never seemed to affect their performance on the show. They spent so long together working on X-Files, and their feud didn’t help with that. Teri Hatcher and Marcia Cross
Desperate Housewives was a smash hit during its 8-year run on ABC. It had the best parts of a few genres, and featured some of the top actresses of the time. However, the show had always been marred with infighting and feuds. One such feud was between Teri Hatcher (who played Susan) and Marcia Cross (who played Bree). Hatcher and Cross fought frequently. For example, they waged verbal war over what swimsuits they would wear for a Vanity Fair cover, and who would get the coveted central placement. They also fought about many other things, including the size of their trailers, and even the shooting methods of Desperate Housewives scenes. Kenny Baker and Anthony Daniels
Perhaps in modern times, R2D2 would be an actual robot constructed purely for use on the set. But back in the 1970s, when Star Wars first came out, this kind of technology would have been ridiculously cost-prohibitive. Instead, they cast a 3 foot 8 inch tall man named Kenny Baker to play R2D2. Alongside C3PO, played by Anthony Daniels, the two were one of the most famous pairs in the Star Wars series. However, Kenny Baker once called Anthony Daniels “the rudest man [he’s] ever met”. He also accused Daniels of calling him “little man” in a derogatory way. Daniels never made any comments, but he did make a slight on Baker’s role in the movie. He stated that Baker isn’t “actually on the set” and he is only credited as “a good luck charm”. The two might have had their problems, but Daniels did seem rather upset when Baker passed away — perhaps they had made amends in their old ages.
Sharon Stone and William Baldwin
The movie Sliver, a thriller about a woman who needs to identify a serial killer before it is too late, was not the best movie ever made. Honestly, it was critically panned, holding only a 4.9/10 on IMDB and a measly 12% on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie features Sharon Stone as a tenant in a luxury apartment building, with William Baldwin playing the owner. The two did what they could with the subpar Sliver script. However, they didn’t get along at all on the set. Sharon Stone even liked to “torture” Baldwin — she disliked him that much. During a kissing scene, she even bit his tongue. This incident left him without a voice for nearly a week. Maybe it was the stress of shooting a bad film catching up to them. Only Stone would know why she did what she did, though.
Betty White and Bea Arthur
The Golden Girls was a hit show, featuring four seniors living together in Miami. The chemistry of the cast was incredible, making them quite believable in their roles as inseparable friends. However, this on-set chemistry didn’t translate to the real world. Bea Arthur was never quite fond of Betty White. She often seemed to be annoyed with White’s positive attitude, and reportedly was furious when Betty White won a Golden Globe before her. According to her son, she was always a bit of an introvert. Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss
Steven Spielberg’s summer blockbuster Jaws was the first of its kind. It was the highest-grossing movie since The Sound of Music. Featuring Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss in starring roles, the shark movie broke a lot of boundaries — even though Robert Shaw was drunk nearly every time he made it to the set. Dreyfuss and Shaw never got along. From the beginning, Shaw would tear into Dreyfuss any chance he got, mocking his stuck-up attitude towards the film. Their feud escalated rapidly, with Dreyfuss even throwing a glass of Shaw’s bourbon out of a window. After this, their relationship was pretty bad until they made amends after Quint’s (Shaw) famous speech.
Tyrese Gibson and James Franco
The 2006 film Annapolis follows the struggle of one young American to make it through naval training. The main character is played by James Franco, and the story culminates in him boxing with his commanding officer, played by Tyrese Gibson. It was not well-received, making decent sales only in the home video market. James Franco has always been a method actor. He even slept on the streets for his film City by the Sea. Unfortunately, he finds it quite hard to escape character, even in fight scenes. Tyrese Gibson’s general animosity towards Franco all stems from the finale boxing scene in Annapolis. Franco ended up punching him in the face several times — hard. He was stuck in his method acting, and ended up getting carried away.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes
The 90s remake of Romeo and Juliet is a faithful recreation of the Shakespearean original. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes as the titular characters. When they are onscreen together, they really do shine. Their acted love almost feels real — that’s how good they are at their jobs. However, when the cameras were off DiCaprio and Danes didn’t get within ten feet of one another. Most of this gulf was created by DiCaprio’s love for pranks. Danes even called him “very immature” based on his practical jokes. Even though the two didn’t get along so well offscreen, their onscreen romance was beautiful.
Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy
Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy have a clearly symbiotic relationship when they are onscreen together. Their movie Lawless was a hit, with both of the actors performing at the top of their game. However, these two didn’t get along very well when they weren’t in-character. At one point, their confrontation just about came to physical blows. They were separated before they could actually fight, and were restrained until they calmed down. We’re not quite sure who would have won in this fight — Tom Hardy is a strong guy, and Shia LaBeouf is small yet fiery — but it would have gotten nasty. Good thing we got Lawless before anything worse occurred.
Lea Michele and Naya Rivera
Glee was a popular show, especially among those people who love music. It has always gotten decent critical reviews, and deals with some of the best stories in modern television. Two talented actresses who worked side-by-side on Glee are Lea Michele and Naya Rivera. These two had a good camera presence, but their relationship was marred by constant fighting. The two actresses are both strong-willed, incredibly competitive people. When you put two women like this together, there’s a pretty good chance that something might happen. Lea Michele, for example, would get pretty heated on set — and even take it off set with her at the end of the day. This led to more and more friction between Rivera and Michele. They are not friends today, and Rivera says that she’ll never “sit on her couch and eat kale [with her] again”.
William Shatner and George Takei
William Shatner and George Takei worked together on Star Trek for several years. This groundbreaking show revolutionized the sci-fi genre, and provided the only solid competitor for Star Wars. Shatner played Captain Kirk of the USS Enterprise, with Takei playing helmsman Hikaru Sulu. According to Takei, Shatner was never a team player. He was always very difficult to work with, and had his own ideas of how things should work. He was also a camera hog, preferring to have the spotlight on him as often as possible. This caused a lot of friction between Shatner and the cast, but especially between him and Takei. It has gone on for a long time, and William Shatner will not make amends with Takei to this day.
Freddie Prinze Jr. and Kiefer Sutherland
24 is one of the most memorable action serials in modern times. It was a revolutionary concept, and has been quite well received by critics. Plus, the show casts some of the best and brightest in Hollywood, such as Freddie Prinze Jr. and Kiefer Sutherland. The two put on an electrifying performance in 24, but that attitude did not carry off-set. Prinze Jr. ended up telling the press that Sutherland “was the most unprofessional dude in the world”, stating that other people who have worked with him have said it as well. His experience working with Kiefer Sutherland actually made him want to quit acting entirely, despite his previously successful career.
Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson
After the movie adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey released, the franchise’s popularity skyrocketed all over the world. The risqué story of a young woman’s love for a billionaire playboy with a dark side was a perfect fit for the screen. Plus, Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson (playing Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele respectively) were great matches for their roles. Despite their extreme closeness onscreen, the two are rather cold with one another in their regular lives. Photos of them together show that they are rather standoffish, and comments they have made suggest that they have a general disdain for each other. Of course, on the set of 50 Shades of Grey, Dakota Johnson was dealing with relationship issues that may have affected her disposition. In 50 Shades Darker, most of their feuding seems to have faded.
Bill Murray and Harold Ramis
One of the best comedies released within the last few decades is Groundhog Day. It’s a time-twisting classic that stars Bill Murray, and is directed by his former co-star Harold Ramis. While the two didn’t have much screen-time together during the film, the short scenes they had together were well-acted. Before Groundhog Day, Harold Ramis and Bill Murray had a very strong relationship and partnership. However, Murray was going through a lot of personal issues at the time that affected his ability to work. He would argue with Ramis over decisions on direction and tone, frequently would turn up late, and was overall quite moody. This permanently impacted their relationship, and they didn’t speak again until Ramis was on his deathbed.
Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey
The classic romantic drama Dirty Dancing will forever be known as one of the best films in the genre. It stars Patrick Swayze as dance instructor Johnny Castle, and Jennifer Grey as Frances “Baby” Houseman. The movie abounds with great dancing, and other awesome scenes. However, Swayze and Grey never really got along on set. Despite their onscreen romance, Patrick Swayze often found himself getting annoyed with Grey. He always thought that she didn’t take her job seriously enough, and was too prone to outbursts of laughter that would interrupt a take. Some of these takes did eventually make it into the film, and Swayze’s exasperated expressions can be seen clearly — he’s not acting.
