Contrary to popular belief celebrities do in fact go to jail on occasion. It might not be for the same amount of time that a regular, unknown citizen might go in for, but it’s still an arrest that will stay on their record for some time to come. With rock stars and actors it often seems as though they can get away with murder and be given a fine and a slap on the wrist, but with those that aren’t quite as famous or have been in trouble one too many times the penalties start to increase as time goes on. Eventually they are given little more special treatment than the average citizen. If there was any justice celebrities would be treated exactly the same as the rest of us, but fame seems to be a buffer against a lot of things that could ruin a person’s life.
Here are just a few celebrities you might not have realized are in jail at this time.
5. Jeremy Jackson
A former star of the 1990’s hit Baywatch, Jackson allegedly stabbed a man in LA in 2015. Yes, he committed the crime in 2015 and just accepted a plea deal in April of 2017 that would allow him to spend just 161 days in jail. He was also ordered to attend an anger management class as well. Yeah, that must seem swell for this guy to wait two years to finally get charged with the crime and then get off with a slap on the wrist.
4. Abby Lee Miller
Ever notice how people that get caught doing something rather stupid are only ever sorrowful when they get caught? It’s always a mistake, always something they DIDN’T MEAN TO DO. She was sentenced to a year and a day in prison after committing bankruptcy fraud, and after being seen as a tyrant on Dance Moms she’s seen breaking down much like her students after being caught doing something that was, for lack of a better description, rather stupid.
3. Jared Fogle
If you were shocked you weren’t alone, but if you were angry soon afterwards, especially if you are a parent, then it would have been no surprise. Jared admitted to possession of child pornography and is currently in prison. He will also be paying out a substantial fortune to the victims that were affected by his deviant acts. If you think he got off easy then rest easy in the knowledge that he’s already been beaten in prison, and it’s very likely that he will continue to suffer the rest of his life.
2. Suge Knight
Suge Knight is not known for being a humble man. The mogul was charged with murder and attempted murder back in 2015 and will be facing a trial that could put him away for life in 2018. He’s been incarcerated during that time and his trial has actually been postponed more than once due to health issues. At this time he’s still seeking legal counsel and his case has yet to be fully decided.
1. O.J. Simpson
If you didn’t know OJ Simpson was in prison to start with then you were likely born after he was sent away or might live out in the back woods where you couldn’t get the news. The most current stint in prison he did was due to kidnapping and armed robbery charges. It was made very clear that the fact that he was acquitted in the murder case from 1995 was not a deciding factor in his charges. He is up for parole and could be out in August.
Perhaps the most frustrating part of celebrities going to jail is that they never seem to understand why this is happening to them or why what they did is deemed to be wrong. It’s almost as though being a celebrity robs a person of common sense and decency.
