Five Things You Didn’t Know About Ekaterina Samsonov

Ekaterina Samonov was recently named one of the up and coming child stars to watch. At just fifteen years old, the Russian American talent has appeared in dozens of print and television ads and has appeared in four films. She is mature beyond her years and carries a wholesome every girl beauty that is attractive and sweet. This is certainly just the start of a long career for Ekaterina Samsonov. Here are 5 things you didn’t know about Ekaterina Samsonov.

She’s Russian American

Ekaterina Samsonov was born in New York City on January 2, 2003. Her parents, Luka and Gala, emigrated to America from Russia. With natural beauty and poise, Ekat or Kate, as she’s called, was signed by Wilhelmina Models New York. Kate’s mom/manager’s laughs when telling the story that she was advised to get her daughter a haircut. She had it cut in a stacked bob and the work piled in. Kate began appearing in print adds for JC Penney, Target, Macy’s, Gap, Little Miss Match, Justice, J. Crew, Ruum, H & M, Gap, DKNY, Bonnie Young and Hewlett Packard.

TV Commercial

As her modeling career began to take off Ekaterina Samsonov began appearing in television commercials. Her first big commercial was for Nutella. She plays the daughter of an exasperated mom who tries to get her kids to eat breakfast before school. The only thing that works is to announce there is Nutella for breakfast. Kate remembers the shoot well because she had to eat a lot of toast with Nutella. She also remembers not getting tired of the nutritious spread and requesting it at her home.


At just fifteen years old, Ekaterina has had roles in several independent films alongside some great actors. She appeared in “Anesthesia”, an independent film by Tim Blake Nelson, which premiered at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival. She appeared with Kristen Stewart, Glenn Close, Gretchen Mol and Sam Waterston. The following year, Ekaterina appeared in “Wonderstruck”, Todd Haynes’ independent mystery drama based on the 2011 novel by Brian Selznick. The film premiered at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. She also appeared in Ido Fluk’s “The Ticket” last year.

You Were Never Really Here

Ekaterina’s most recent films is the dark film “You Were Never Really Here”. The movie was directed and written by Scottish independent filmmaker Lynne Ramsay. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival where it won Best Screenplay and Best Actor. The movie comes to theaters in April. Ekaterina plays Nina, the daughter of an ambitious politician. When Nina is kidnapped by a sex slave ring, Joaquin Phoenix’s character, a military veteran, is contracted to rescue her. Phoenix’s character suffers post traumatic stress disorder and is haunted, damaged and angry. Ekaterina’s Nina is not one to be a victim. She’s tough, mature for her age, and has depth.

What’s next?

Ekaterina continues to model between her film roles. At just 15, she already has a full resume. She enjoys both modeling and acting and hopes to find more exciting roles in the near future. In her spare time, Kate enjoys spending time with her friends doing typical teenage things. She loves to swim, go horseback riding, read, sing and paint.
