Do you ever have an famous actor or actress in your life that always rubbed you the wrong way? For some reason there was this “thing” about them that you couldn’t stand and you could never, ever get over it. For some people it might be the “blah” way that someone like Juliette Lewis talks. For others it could be the irritating sound of Gilbert Gottfried’s voice. You can’t explain your irritation but you just know it’s there and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. That’s how I feel about Isabella Rossellini’s accent.
I think she’s a great actress. I really do. I mean let’s face it, she’s got the amazing genes. Most people forget that her mother was Ingrid Bergman so acting was a natural pursuit for her. But like I said, I just can’t stand her accent. Rossellini is fluent in Italian but she also has a ton of French in her. Somehow she has this wacky combination of both when she speaks English and it irritates me to no end. This is nothing personal against Isabella. Like I said, she’s probably a fine lady and as I said great actress, but every time I hear her speak I have to leave the room.
Here’s a quick clip from 30 Rock that demonstrates it perfectly. Why does it take her so long to stay stuff???? Arghhhh
