Steven Spielberg To Become CEO of Amblin Entertainment After Current CEO Steps Down

To make it clear it doesn’t sound like the current CEO, Mike Wright, is stepping out of the picture entirely, but is stepping down from his spot as CEO of Amblin Entertainment. Steven Spielberg, who is already the chairman of the company, will be stepping in to fill the gap and take over. Wright will still be around but his role will be changed and he’ll be serving in a different capacity. The general feeling is that he might not have been right fit for the position despite being given the spot in 2014.

It’s a big up for Spielberg though, but no further details have really been forthcoming as of yet. The chance for Spielberg to show just how effective he can be at the top spot however might be interesting as the tide shifts and he takes the reins. A lot of us have known due to his films and his unique vision that Spielberg is one among a few individuals that can get the job done, whatever it might be, when he sets himself to it. This will no doubt be a great challenge for him but the amount of confidence being placed in him is obviously high enough that it’s believed he can take over and continue to steer the company in the right direction.

Wright’s contract wasn’t due to be up until 2020 but for some reason it was decided that he needed to step down and give Spielberg a shot at the role. As I said before he won’t be going too far, as he’ll be taking the role of an executive producer on two of Amblin’s upcoming films. At the very least it is heartening to know that Wright won’t just be kicked to the curb after giving the company what he had to give in terms of his service and expertise.

Hollywood and all its many machinations can be demanding and extremely taxing but what we don’t often see or hear about are those that are so far behind the scenes as to be invisible. The top execs and businessmen and women of the industry are hard at work on a regular basis doing their part to insure that the American public is given the type of entertainment they desire as well. It’s not always a sure thing since the industry can be a hit and miss kind of thing, but these people tend to do what they can in order to bring the viewers what they think is desired and what they feel is worth the public’s time.

The one truth that is undeniable in any job, career, or position of power, is that no one is expendable. Wright was seen, and still is seen, as a valued asset, but like anyone else he’s replaceable when it comes to his job. It’s that way everywhere if you really look at it. There are few if any people who are truly irreplaceable when it comes to a job. It seems unfair and even callous at times but the stark truth is that if you’re not a good fit for a position, eventually someone will be found that is.
