Last week, the southeastern United States was hit pretty hard by a string of tornadoes. Over three hundred people have been reported as casualties of the April 27 outbreak of storms, with most casualties coming from Alabama -- my home state. The storms luckily missed my hometown, though that can't be said of surrounding towns and cities. The devastation here is pretty ubiquitous, and cleanup efforts will likely be taking place for quite a while.
FOX stations, in a show of sensitivity toward the victims of the storms, have decided to postpone a crossover between the three Seth MacFarlane animated comedies (Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show). The crossover, which features a hurricane as a major plot point, was deemed insensitive by FOX execs and thus postponed.
"In light of the recent storms that have affected the nation, Fox has decided to postpone the crossover episodes that were originally scheduled to air this Sunday," a spokesperson said in an official statement.
Sunday's episode will be replaced by reruns of older episodes, while the hurricane crossover event will air next year, in Spring 2012.
What do you think? Is FOX making the right move by postponing the episode, or do you think that the prevalence of a hurricane will offend anyone in the affected areas at all? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
I think they should air it anyway, Never stopped them from being offensive to other people….OJ Simpson….
I agree..where is this sensitive side and maybe give a choice of a month later or something…why this year…..THIS OFFENDS ME!!
THATS SOOOOO GAY
They should air it right now
This is the second episode postponing of the year. The first involved three Pokemon episode in Japan after the recent tsunami and earthquake. The episodes involved the debut of Team Plasma and a fishing contest that Cilan entered.
Gay
I could see them postponing it a week……BUT A WHOLE YEAR??? That's just overkill.
A couple years ago, I was watching an anime show called Dragon Ball Z. And they were originally going to air the episode "Gohan's First Date". But then Cartoon Network pulled the episode out because it had something to do with 9/11 and the Twin Towers being destroyed! :( And instead, Cartoon Network decided to air the next episode "Rescue Videl" (which comes after "Gohan's First Date") that same day.
It's kind of a sad story. :(
how would his date have any thing to do with the twin towers lol
Well in the episode "Gohan's First Date", there was a scene where some building that resembled the Twin Tower was on fire and I think that's the reason why Cartoon Network pulled the episode because it had something to do with 9/11.
I think it's very appropriate of them to defer airing it now, but a year is a very long time to hold it.
I just wan to watch it and really a whole year WOW fali
why do they have to wate till 2012? thats stupid a whole year i live in AL close to the areas that were hit and by the way it was a tornado not a hurricane theres a diffrence. so they should at lest give us a link to watch if we want to. And a year is too long to wate
wow i cant believe this. FOX being sensitive? thats funny.
I cant believe they are waiting one year over one little hurricane.
I am surprised that fox has made ti a whole year till the shows air…I was looking forward to the shows and do understand that the disaster is a horrible thing and that maybe these shows featuring a similar disaster would upset and disturb people but a whole year is too long…..Maybe a month or two but not a year….Why do that to us fans in the west
Family Guy shows are 99% in bad taste making fun of anything and everyone under the sun. I think FOX"s decision is stupid. They are going to air it eventually, and it may still be found offensive at that time. I think they should've aired it with a disclaimer as to the offensive content, and donated the proceeds of the episode to the victims from the tornadoes. That would have made them look like heroes and given those dealing with the tragedy a sense that FOX cares.
Lame, lame, lame, lame, LAME!. I feel for the people who had to suffer through the tornadoes recently, but since when does Fox all of a sudden decide to become "PC" with regard to this? They should have aired the episodes anyway.
That is retarded. I agree with all the above statements about feeling bad for the tornado victims but postponing this episode until spring of next year sucks. Its overkill and probably should have been taken into more consideration by FOX. I mean Family Guy has had no problem airing episodes that have crossed the line before and not only in FG but in American Dad and The Cleveland Show. For example they have aired episodes that have made fun of 9/11 countless times. I can confidently say that the majority of Family Guy fans are going to demand showing of the episodes before next year. FOX will have to comply at risk of losing many fans. I myself was waiting for these episodes and was going to be one of the highlights of my weekend
This is the network that cancelled Family Guy. They don't care about losing fans. They have none.
I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be a problem for anyone in those areas cause their televisions are probably inside out 2 miles away.
That was my thought. Nobody in a tornado will be able to watch TV. But like Fox programming is anything respectable. I'm waiting for them to cancel the Simpsons even after its been on 20 years. I mean they cancelled Family Guy and Futurama. I mean they have so many great shows….
Yeah this is bullshit but are they airing the next episode this weekend i hope so? i want to see the big ban thory episode
so do they think that since there was tornados this spring that next year there will be no tornados and it will safe to air? Come on, if they are going to postpone it at least air it in a different time of year so that the exact same situation doesn't happen again…
1) Why wait a Whole Year
2) Well It Aint Stoping South Park Airing Two Bin Ladin Epis
Family Guy has ALWAYS been offensive. It's what makes it so funny.
OMFG like who gives a sh|t…really. isn't this like the second time this season where they pussied out on showing an episode? was looking forward to the crossover episodes all week and they let me down bigtime. I was much more offended by the un-airing of these episodes. I hate that my 3 top fav shows (the simpsons, FG, American Dad) are with such a lame ass network. and i miss Futurama.
I'm also from Alabama and thankfully I wasn't hit unlike surrounding neighborhoods. My cousin and I went out and bought a car battery and inverter just so we could watch Animation Domination and when it was time to watch we suddenly realized they were reruns. We just assumed it was our local Fox station that held back, and not Fox as a whole. Anyways I was to watch it online. That way at least the ones that need a good laugh or isn't affected by any tornadoes and/or flooding could see it as well. Just a thought.
Thats awful! I agree with a lot of people, family guy is always offensive! Its funny that way! I cant believe its gonna be a full year, this episode was the one I wanted to see the most! i am so pissed off.
i guess postponing it is ok but 2012!?!?!?!?! way to late they should have it be fall or winter 2011
I don't think postponing it was a bad idea, but make it manageable for people who didn't get hit my the hurricane, 2012, teats just fucking ridiculous. And yeah family guy is offensive to many many things, but a hurricane happens and they don't wanna offend anyone, they didn't even make fun of the hurricane, it was a coincidence, and whats to say there is another hurricane in the spring, what will they do then? They should just air the episode.
Sorry about my spelling errors, my laptop's keys are kind of sticky sometimes.
i think that they should postpone it but at least release it to the internet.
i think they already played it
