FlashForward Has a 'Definite Chance' of Renewal

All you sci-fi television fans can sleep just a little bit easier at night. Why? Because chances are actually looking good for a FlashForward season two.

I know you're all asking What? But FlashForward's been losing viewers like crazy! Last week's episode only got 5.42 million viewers!

And I know what you're saying. As much as I love ABC Thursday's sci-fi series, I was really skeptical of the series coming back for another year, simply because it was doing so poorly with American audiences. And I still am skeptical, to a certain degree. But Kristin dos Santos of E! Online is telling me to worry less for Mark Benford and his pals.

"I'm hearing there is most definitely a chance FlashForward will be renewed," dos Santos shared, "because it actually does fairly well overseas and doesn't hemorrhage as much money as you'd think. A source tells me, 'This is a rare case where a low domestic performer could get a surprise pickup.' We'll find out May 18, when ABC announces its schedule."

After I'd finished celebrating over this wonderful piece of news, I calmed myself down and thought about it. Not only is this occurrence rare (American audiences are usually a pretty good gauge for the rest of the world). But, according to CNN, the UK, Italy, and Spain all love FlashForward. Could they save the drama? As Kristin says, it's very possible (though ratings are starting to slip in the UK as well -- the most recent episode hit a series low of 1.8 million).

But if FlashForward gets picked up, what does that mean for ABC's other freshman sci-fi series, V? It definitely seems unlikely that ABC will keep both shows -- one will most likely not make it to a season two. And if I were a betting man, I'd say that things aren't looking too good for V.

What do you think? Have your spirits been lifted along with FlashForward's renewal chances? Will you be sending chess pieces to ABC to let them know that you want more FlashForward along with the rest of the world?

Flashforward bored me 10 minutes in. Meanwhile, V keeps getting better and better and I want to see more of these characters. With FF, I can't even remember any of the character names, that's how little I cared.

THANK YOU JESUS..erm… sam. This gives me hope. At this point, even a wee bit of hope is a good thing. I held out watching this (initially) until I was fairly sure it would be continued. It was a pure coincidence that I caught up around the time that Dominic Monaghan showed up…. no honest. Really. *shifty look* I think with all the LOST-induced expectations, people tend to forget that this IS the first season. So far, So good. :)

Interesting. The show definitely has a chance quality wise. I'd be accepting of another season, but I'm not so sure about losing V. Tough call.

Certainly good news for FlashForward. I've been enjoying it & had heard it does quite well overseas. I was surprised the ratings in the States were up a little last week, so hopefully it'll turn into a trend. I also understand that it's ABC's show so that may be another notch in its favor for renewal. I sadly, had to bail on V after its return. I don't know why but it didn't strike my fancy the way it did before it's insanely long hiatus.

There have been other American series that have fared well outside the US, and that has not managed to save them. As much as it pains me to say it, I can’t understand why there would be an exception for Flash Forward.

I can't wait to see the next episode of "Flash Forward". It is one of the best shows I've seen on tv in a long time. It constantly holds my attention, and is full of unexpected surprises.

Way off..V will be renewed while FF will be cancelled. Last week they only pulled a 1.4 in the 18-49

  11. kevinfromminneapolis says:

ABC screwed over both shows by putting them on a four month break. How can they legitimately judge a show when they give it no chance of gathering an audience? If FF gets cancelled, the Lost finale will be the last time I watch an ABC drama, because I don't trust them.

It's gotten better and is quite enjoyable once you get past the flaw in the central premise* (that is: if you know you're going to experience a moment where your past self experiences what you're doing at that time, AND if you know you can pinpoint the exact time that this occurs, then why weren't 99% of the FF's of people trying to send messages back in time (like stock quotes, sport scores, etc)?)However, I've been thinking about it and it does seem that the writers might have had the characters do exactly that (just badly): Mark looking at his board, Simcoe looking at the equation, etc. *Which also existed in the novel, of course.

  14. Emgee says:

This might make more sense than some may be inclined to think. With its steady decline in ratings, you would think ABC would have canceled it by now. But for some reason they haven't. I think there may very well be a Season 2.

  15. Alex says:

I watch both shows, but have to say that Flash forward is way better than V, the show's growing just like Fringe did and hopefully will keep evolving.I really wish them renewal.

  16. C. Han. says:

i think the network really screwed up with it's 2 sci-fi shows V and flashforward. both of these are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING shows (flashforward more than V, though). no wonder the ratings didn't do well, i think the network is to blame on the lack of promotion and marketing for both of these shows. i really hope they do reconsider renewing flashforward, at least….FOX network, please pick the show up!
