Did that feel like an hour to you?
Sometimes, when Idol gets it right, it's as if time flies. Tonight was that night. Mixing small group performances wtih guest stars and some breezy video packages, tonight seemed such a different atmosphere from last week.
It began with a dramatic fil-esque recap of last night, and then set right into performances. (Also is JLo auditioning for a gladiator movie I don't know about?)
Lauren and Scotty "American Honey" I understand why they keep pairing these two, but I'd love to hear them both strech. That said Lauren is still a better vocalist than Scotty, but he's definitely gotten better than the last time they sang together. Added bonus: after it was over, he seemed a little more comfortable and less pageant-y than her.
There was an awesome bit on how they did the Ford commercial, which was about zombies. (It was fun, but I sort of miss the cheese in the commercials. Remember how awful they used to be?)
After a commercial Haley and Casey duetted on "Moanin'". I'm going to cut short everything I want to say, except that these two would make an awesome top two if the powers that be let it happen. If not, Haley, please be a guest on Casey's jazz album, kay? (Also, after tonight, I'm more inclined to believe the rumors that they have a thing.)
They brought Lauren and Scotty back, and eventually Haley ended up in the bottom three. I'm not surprised, and she seemed pretty okay with it too.
Then there was an amusing bit with Rob Reiner (who directed two of my favorite movies: Stand by Me and The Princess Bride.)
The the one, the only, the original American Idol, Kelly Clarkson, sang with Jason Aldean on the song "Don't You Wanna Stay?" Say what you will about Kelly, she is amazing, and exactly what the show needed for a first winner. (Also loved her zinger at Ryan. And the fact that she didn't shy away from flirting with Casey on camera.)
Then Jacob, James, Paul and Stefano were in a group together, singing "Sounds of Silence" and "Mrs Robinson". It was pretty good, but I felt sorry that the guys didn't get duets.
Then it was announced that Stefano and Paul were in the bottome three with Haley.
Rihanna sang (and pretty well) a song about a bed. (Seriously, what were those lyrics?)
Then it was revealed that our journey with Paul was over this week. I'm okay with that. Paul had a decent voice, but this was the wrong season for a guy like him. He'll get back with his band, record an album and do slightly better than he was before. So good for him.
I'm going to warn you now. David Cook is going to be on next week's results show, so I can't be responsible for anything that I write. Until then, good night.
