The end of the 2017-2018 television season is upon us. Many shows are airing their last handful of episodes and not returning with fresh episodes until September. Thankfully, we are treated to a handful of new shows to watch during the summer when we have had enough with the heat and need to relax indoors. FOX has had success with some of their new shows this season. 9-1-1 is the network’s highest rated show and has already been renewed for a season two. The Gifted received an early season 2 renewal and it looks like The Resident will be back for more rounds next season. However, not all shows on FOX will have the same fate. Here are the shows we know (or think we know) won’t be back.
New Girl
This is a no brainer for any fan of the series. It was looking like last season was going to be the end of this FOX comedy. However, the network decided to bring it back for eight episodes. The first of those will air tonight at 9:30 PM. Hopefully, Jess and Nick can finally make it work and live happily ever after.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
When this FOX comedy made a move to Sunday nights recently, it did receive a bump in the ratings. However, we think that increase was too little too late for the series. It had been rumored that the show was going to be cancelled back in 2017 and it didn’t help matters when it went on hiatus for 3 months. Luckily, the cast is talented and will find work on other series.
The Exorcist
FOX made a startling move last May when it renewed this series for a second season. The show aired on Friday nights and still was not drawing that impressive of numbers for a slow night on television. Season two saw a cast change and new storyline for the horror series. Fans could not get into it, no matter how talented Alfonso Herrera is as Father Ortega.
Ghosted
I had high hopes for this new FOX series. Adam Scott killed it on Parks and Recreation and Craig Robinson was great on The Office. Putting this duo together was comic gold. Again a hiatus is to blame decline in viewership. The first took place between December and January. The series would come back for two episodes and then disappear again until March. Shame on FOX for how they handled this. If the series would have aired all of its episodes in the fall, it may have survived to see a season two.
