Two things (again) of note: Ryan Seacrest tweeted about results again. He always does, but I sensed a seriousness in his tweet that meant to me someone other than Haley was going home tonight. Secondly, the results show went by fast, didn't it? Good work Idol producers.
It started with a review of last night, and cut straight to performances. If I was voting I'd say Haley/Lauren edged out James/Scotty. My only question is why country songs? Stand By Me would have been perfectly appropriate.
Then Lauren was announced safe (I began to worry.)
We had a string of performances, good bad and indifferent. Enrique was kind of okay I guess, except I'm not sure I understood many of the words to his song, the sound mix was so bad. Lady Gaga was from her HBO special (probably due to the way Idol "ruined" her last appearance.) Jordin Sparks was interesting in that it wasn't what I expected but I generally enjoyed it.
Steven Tyler had a music video that creeped me out because the blond girl couldn't have been more than 20.
There was an advertisement for Windows Live (was it just me or did Haley get little screen time.) There was a cute Ford music video to Fireflies.
Finally they got down to business. Ryan being Ryan, he talked about how strong the guys were AND THEN PROCEEDED TO SEND HALEY TO SAFETY.
(If you've ever seen that gif of Kermit the frog with his hands waving in the air, that was me.)
Down to Scotty and James, I could have seen it either way. James has been a consummate showman, but his pitch issues and vocal control are starting to be a problem. Scotty is vocally steady, but a bit on the samey side.
The viewers sent James Durbin home. I have to admit, there were many moments where I did like James, and he's actually third on my list of people I've downloaded this season. But the fact that he was so controversial was always going to get him.
Next week is three songs (Steven Tyler, please please choose Haley) and hometown visits. See you then.
IMO, neither James or Scotty are worthy of winning this show. They are both sort of freakish with their onscreen tics/mannerisms. Not pleasant to watch.
Lauren is a beautiful girl with a great range, she just lacks confidence. I am going to hope that tonight's result gives her some confidence but I'm thinking her young age will work against that.
I think Haley is the best of the three and I'm glad she did not get voted off tonight.
