Fringe Ratings Drop 15%, Set Series Low

Fringe - OliviaWhile Friday night's episode of Fringe, "And Those We've Left Behind," was, in my opinion, the best episode of the season, the episode's ratings were down 15% from the previous episode.

You can check out TVOvermind's review of the episode here.

The episode nabbed 3.07 million viewers, down from the 3.21 million who tuned in for "Novation." In the 18-49 ratings, which are really important, the episode drew a 1.1. Last week's episode got a 1.3 in the same demographic.

What does this mean for Fringe? I can't say that it changes much. The show's fourth season is almost certainly going to be its last. There's really no danger of the show being burned off on a worse night; the Friday night time slot it's in right now isn't exactly prime television real estate.

Fringe will return with its next episode, the midseason finale "Wallflower," on November 18 on FOX at 9/8c. Check out some promotional photos from that episode here.

Such a shame, & the impatient people are the only ones to blame. Makes me sad that people give up on this show so quickly cause it really is fantastic. Same thing has happened to shows in the past like LOST where people get impatient & give up. Then when they find things out they either just write it off right away or totally misunderstand it.

People need to realize that the writers have a master plan here, they have a path they need to follow & we need to let them take the whole season to explain it. If you sat & watched full seasons from start to finish then you'd see what I mean. But sadly most people who watch TV nowadays have short attention spans, hence the popularity of shows like American Idol & Dancing with the Stars.

3.07 million is a drop of less than 5% from 3.21 million. A drop of 15% would have put the viewership figure at roughly 2.7 million. So either the numbers in the article are wrong, or your math is wrong. Hopefully its your math and Fringe fans need not fear such a dismal drop.

The 15% drop was in the key demo, 18/34 year olds. I think the drop is not that significant given this was a three day weekend for a lot of people.

This was the best episode of the season so far with the others not being bad at all. Fringe always delivers top notch.
Matt, I agree with you. The writers are doing an excellent job telling THEIR story. I would like to see all the complainers come up with a better one.
I'm going to continue to do everything I can to promote Fringe. I drive around in my Fringe mobile. I'll post where ever I can with positive comments. I've started paying attention to the commercials during it and will make an effort to buy the products or eat at the restaurants. I'll keep the receipt and mail it in with a thank you for supporting the show.
And I give FOX credit for having renewed it for S4. I'm not going to give up.
    Fringe Rocks!

  4. It’s a real shame if we’d have to see this series go. Honestly in my opinion it is the best series that could ever be on television. With the time slot that they were given Fringe, has really picked up a large number of viewers. Fox has already moved this time slot once. Maybe the show coulf increase rating is shown earlier in the week. Another concern is nbc show chuck which also airs at that time, really poses a problem, cause both are great shows. Really feel that fringe has a lot more to give as and it will be a real shame if season 4 is it’s last.#FringeIsTheBest.

I don't think it's fair to blame the time slot. For example, Fringe started off with a 1.2 on Friday night following Kitchen Nightmares and then dropped to 1.1 in the second half hour (info. on tvbythenumbers.com) So, it really has no one else to blame but itself. It's a seemingly impossible show for a casual viewer to get into. Its dvr number are impressive but unfortunately even FOX care little for those numbers. Their statistics twitter account didn't even post the dvr numbers for last week until prompted to by a fan. Time to give up the game, Fringe. Plan ahead for the end and finish with your head held high.
