Sometimes Peter Bishop not existing isn't such a bad thing.
Take, for instance, the story possibilities that could arise now that Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson) never existed. Imagine the impossibilities, Fringe's tagline declares. While mulling over what could happen next in the story, my thoughts stumbled upon my favorite impossibility thus far: the return of David Robert Jones.
Jared Harris's villainous David Robert Jones was perhaps the highlight of the first season; this was before the really meaty main cast parts started coming along in season two. No, Jones was the perfect bad guy for the first season of the show, back when we were just starting to understand the concept of alternate universes. Unfortunately, he found himself literally trapped between the two universes in the season one finale, and was chopped in half when a certain someone forced the universe portal to suddenly close. Have a guess as to who that someone is.
However, now that Peter Bishop never existed, does this mean we might see Jones again? The cards all seem to be lining up right; Harris's other gig Mad Men has been postponed enough to potentially allow the actor to fly up to Vancouver to film.
If there's any character at all I'd like to see return to the show, it's Jones without a doubt. Not because he's named after David Bowie or because he's played by the absolutely magnetic Jared Harris, but because he introduced us to so much. He was the first one we saw to create a portal between the universes. He introduced Olivia to her dormant psychic abilities. Hell, he was the first recurring antagonist the show ever had! And there were just so many more questions left about him that it'd be a shame if they didn't bring him back in some capacity (also notable: as far as we know, the David Jones on the other side is still alive). At the very least, bringing Jones back would give Peter's sudden disappearance a bit of a silver lining.
Fringe will return for a fourth season in the fall.
That would be GREAT news to have Jared Harris back on Fringe! I love his accent (though not the first reason I want him back). ZFT has been gone for so long that I want to know what happened to them. Chance Kelly could also return as Mitchell Loeb!
Plus, hopefully more Orla Brady in season 4 as well! And Ari Graynor and Lily Pilblad, please!
I agree whith akk except Mr. Loeb, bit boring. I see Robert Jo nes more together with mr X, the man who Olivia said will kill her.
Jared Harris wants to come back, he said that this week in an interview. He is a fan of Fringe, loved Bellivia.
The possibilities are endless, especially with that bridge.
Since we all know that peter will be back, my bet is that Our Olivia will be the only one seeing him for a while, pulling everyone else along.
Oh okay, so would it be a BAD THING if that blonde whore Olivia Dunham didn't exist? I'm sure an article like this, actually appreciating Peter not existing, wouldn't exist. Asshole,.
Are you one of those Jackson fans insulting Olivia and/or Anna everywhere?
I wish josh jackson had not done that many interviews, in which he repeated over and over again what he liked and did not like of season 3.He seems to have no idea that Peter is in every storyline, in fact he had more storylines then Olivia.
Are you Anto? The fan who insults Peter/Joshua Jackson everywhere? Yes, you are! I've just read your comment below.
Well you insult Joshua Jackson everywhere you go, so it's like calling the kettle black. Yes, she is the crazy one that goes everywhere going on about Olivia. You both use the same language and go on about the same things everywhere, so it's not hard to know who you are. There is only one Jackson fan who does this and like you she uses different names.
He didn't have more storylines than Olivia because they are all entwined in the show. Peter affecting Olivia, Olivia affecting Peter. In the end Olivia was even tied to the machine story. Same old beef, you repeat over and over.
I'm all for bringing back some of the old characters that were great from previous seasons, for season 4. As long as it makes sense, I'm all for it.
Seriously? Offing Peter is great, because David Robert Jones would be back? Can't Jared Harris play alternate DRJ instead? I enjoyed that character in S1, but his arc was interesting for so long.
Imagine the impossibilities: Peter triggered Olivia's abilities, so she didn't defuse the bomb with her mind and she would be dead. He and his connections saved Ella's life, etc.
Imagine the impossibilities: Peter never existed, the last 3 seasons never existed, does that mean the Fringe DVDs don't exist either? Good to know that I'm going to save money and time, which I'll spend watching shows that do exist.
Whoa whoa whoa, relax! I'm only commenting on Peter's disappearance being good for storyline possibilities. Peter will most certainly be back, but until he is, I think they should utilize this "never existed" storyline to bring back Jones. But, like I said, Peter will undoubtedly return.
Sigh…my tolerance in overemotional people crumbles to dust.
How are you so sure that he will return? And why are the writers of this show so disinterested in exploring Peter as a character? Now they can explore the other characters without him, as the writers said. That is something they never bothered doing with Peter, who has been a background character at best and now he has disappeared for who knows how long. The focus has shifted from Olivia to Walter and back to Olivia. Peter? Oh yes! Peter never existed, he doesn't need character development. At least they are consistent with their "appreciation" for the character.
They could bring back Jones, they could bring back Newton, they could bring back John Scott. Why not? The last 3 seasons never happened.
The writers have confirmed that Peter is coming back.
No, they haven't. They have confirmed Joshua Jackson would be back in some capacity. They have gone out of their way not to confirm that the character of Peter would be back.
Why don't you stop trying to predict what the writers are planning to do? It's obvious you don't know, so sit back and either enjoy the ride or stop watching the show.
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! I soooo agree you!
Am I the only one who thought David Robert Jones and Olivia had chemistry???? Oh sure, he was a fantastically diabolical bad guy, but sometimes to me it felt like he was just on the edge of professing his love to her. Like he knew something about her, and them, that he SO wanted to say, but wasn't allowed/able to. Oh please, Fringe writers, let this be part of your thought process if the character (alternate, or whatever) comes back!!!!
I have actually thought at one point that he could be her natural father, more from the evil kind, given that he said something like he could have killed Olivia a long time ago if he wanted. So therefore my idea of Jones and Mr.X together.
I hate that they took petter off! If they don't find a way to put him back soon, I'm telling everyone to stop watching the show. I hate when they drag shit out the way they do.
The writers have said many times by now that Jackson will be back, Anna Torv was in London and Italy recently doing promotion for Fringe and was asked that question over and over again by fans and journos (nice, al the attention focused on him don't you think?) and over and over again she said that peter and josh will be back.
Some of his fans think that he will not, because he is not on the list for the panel of Comic Con.
That Josh Jackson CHOOSES not to go to Comic Con, could be for several reasons:
- he seeks attention and decides to come at the last minute, or not to come at all after all.
which will leave the rest of the cast having to talk about him probably, a bit like John and Anna had to do at Paley.
-or this is part of a gimmick, and he will be the surprise, which will be just as insulting to the rest of the cast.
Anna Torv and John Noble have both made it clear that Frnge is the star, not one individual.
Anto, you are the Anna Torv obsessed fan, you should, at least, listen to what she said. She didn't say Peter would be back, she said Josh would be back. That's what the producers said and she just repeated after them. The producers also said, that they wouldn't say, who Josh was going to play. It might be Peter, but maybe not.
- I see you keep giving the man props wherever you go. You have the ability to turn everything he does into negative intentions, so that the object of your obsession shines brighter. Pathetic.
- If this is a gimmick, it's on the part of the producers. Actors have no say on what has to be done at conventions. Unless Josh is engaged elsewhere, going to conventions is part of the contract and he will do, as he is told. In this case, he hasn't been invited yet.
Joshua Jackson has never said Fringe is about the individual. In fact, he has always promoted the whole product, not himself. Try to change your tune, please.
I think it would be appreciated by everybody who likes the show to quit making things up about Josh Jackson. I, like alot of people like all the actors on the show and don't thing it is necessary when someone writes straight out lies about someone.
We have no idea why he is not going to Comicon, and the reason hasn't been released. He has gone the last three times, so don't go making assumptions about something you don't have the info about. It was documented by John Noble at both Paely events, that he would of attended both if he not been filming his movie. So, if he hadn't had prior commitments he would of been there.
If they do bring him to Comiccon and he turns up in the middle of the panel, then that decision will not be made by him, it will be the producers doing. Again, that's people's speculation, it may not happen.
Yes, the star is Fringe. You are the only one making it about one individual. I see you back to dissing John Noble because he won an award and Anna didn't.
Oh my god, anto, shut up already! Who is nominated for awards? ANNA TORV IS! Who is getting emmy buzz? ANNA TORV! who has been doing most of promotion after fringe ended? ANNA FREAKING TORV! SO SHUT UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP!
I could easily deal with a Peterless Fringe. Our Walter or Our Olivia go, I'm out, but I never got the big deal over the Peter character. Josh Jackson brings a charm to the role, but some of his interviews has soured me a bit, and even before that I simply didn't feel his presence missing in the Over There episodes of S3 (and found the shoehorning of JJ into those episodes by having an imaginary Peter be Olivia's touchstone about the only negative to that part of the season). Blasphemy to some people, I know, but I'm much more invested in Walter and Olivia, and find even Astrid and Broyles more compelling. Peter's too much of a Mary Sue at this point. It was ridiculous early in the series where he apparently knew/could do virtually everything — except the Fibioacci Sequence, I think it was — and now he alone has the power to save the world! GMAB. And please, stop sacrificing Olivia to prop him.
You don't know what the heck you are talking about, that is all.
Everybody likes a show for different reasons. I would prefer to have less Walter and Olivia. For me, the best episodes are where all the characters have equal airtime. It just doesn't happen enough, for my liking. It would be great for Nina to be involved more with her own storyline and that goes for Astrid and Broyles as well. We know little about them. It would be good if they fleshed Peter out abit more and not continually use him only as a plot device. So, if having to deal with a Peterless fringe means getting all of the characters more rounded, then I am all for it. They have a great ensemble, so why not use it.
Peter knowing/could do virtually everything, was as much up there with the ridiculousness of Walter being behind nearly everycase over the course of season 1 and part of season 2. Peter can save the world, but Olivia has got super powers now. She can move things with her mind. I was ok with her being able to cross universes, but the super powers thing is a bit ridiculous. I know it's a science fiction show, but they need to not push it to far.
Momo, Peter is and will NEVER will be a freaking Mary sue. The mary sue here is Olivia. I mean come on , Bad ass FBI agent. heroic female, she will make a mistake and everybody will "baby" her, she hid secrets from Peter about his origins and everybody's like, "oh poor Olivia" but peter hid ONE secret from her and people hate him for it.
