Fringe Spoilers -- S2 Finale Details

Earlier today, TVOvermind posted that Fringe's second season finale will be a two part episode directed by Akiva Goldsman, and written by Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Goldsman talked about the technical aspects of the finale, but he also got into some spoiler-tastic details of the season ender. What did he have to say?

First, the big one: a William Bell/Walter Bishop showdown. It's been building for a while; ever since Walter mentioned having worked with 'Belly' in season one, we knew that there were some deep, dark secrets in their past. More of those secrets were revealed this season in "Grey Matters," when we learned that Bell had removed parts of Walter's brain which held the secret to opening a portal to the alternate universe, the main contributing factor to Walter's mental deterioration.

"William and Walter will finally face off in the finale," Goldsman confirmed. "These [characters] have so much that they’re bringing to bear. And Leonard and John are two fantastic actors."

I'm definitely excited to see how this goes down. Will Walter break down and forgive his old friend, or will the angry Walter take the foreground and attack Bell? Both are distinct possibilities, especially given the fact that the spotlight will be on Walter. "We’re going to be looking very closely into [Walter's son] Peter’s  identity, Walter’s choices in the past, and Walter’s choices in the future."

But how are they going to meet? Last time we saw William, he was "Over There," in the alternate universe. Goldsman's final hint about the episode says it all, and it certainly opens up quite a lot to interpretation. "By the end of the season, we’re all going over to the other side," he said.
