I’m taking all the credit for this.
If Fringe‘s numbers stay like they were last night, then a third season isn’t only guaranteed, it’s a certainty. That’s because numbers for the mystery series were up dramatically from almost any episode this season. While “What Lies Below,” last week’s outing, managed to garner around 7 million viewers, last night’s “The Bishop Revival” managed to raise last week by almost two million viewers and glued roughly 8.9 million pairs of eyes to their television screens. This is phenomenally good. The episode is the second most viewed episode of the season after “A New Day in the Old Town.”
Of course, Fringe was competing mainly against reruns, and still came in second for the hour against a rerun of CSI. When CSI, Grey’s Anatomy, and The Office begin airing new episodes again next week, ratings for Fringe‘s next episode, “Jacksonville,” won’t probably be as stellar as they were last night. However, this only goes to show Fringe‘s scheduling problems.
However, it also goes to show how good Fringe is. The episode, which you can read a recap for here, is one of the best of the season, and there’s nothing more satisfying for me than to see the ratings reflect that. I continue to urge Fringe fans to continue to tune in to the series next week, before it goes on its awkwardly-placed hiatus until April 1 (next week’s episode, regardless of what the FOX website claims, is not the season finale). If Fringe can maintain its viewers, then the show is quite sure to receive a third season, and fans won’t have to crank up massive SAVE FRINGE campaigns.
