The Numbers Are In: How Did Fringe Friday Fare?

We've all been on the edge of our seats since November, when it was announced that FOX would be moving Fringe to Fridays. Fans of the show went through all kinds of stages of grief, eventually settling on bargaining. And, believe it or not, the bargaining worked!

Last night's episode, "The Firefly," was the first of the series to air on a Friday. The ratings have come back in, and things are looking peachier than even expected.

Right now, ratings for the episode are actually looking like a clear step up from "Marionette," the last episode of Fringe to air on Thursdays back in December. Fringe's 18-49 demographic rating share with that episode was a 1.7/5, while initial ratings for "The Firefly" are telling us that Friday's episode scored 1.9/6 (a better score than most episodes this season, actually). The show was even up in total viewers, with 4.883 million to "Marionette's" 4.738.

Now, these ratings may or may not be adjusted down by TV by the Numbers later today, but as they're saying, things are looking good for Fringe with this episode: it maintained all of its Thursday viewership on Fridays, and both hours were consistent in terms of viewers (most people watched the episode all the way through, instead of tuning in for just a bit).

Don't expect an instant renewal of Fringe yet (thought we do have more reason to be hopeful for one). We'll first need to see how much of last night's Fringe audience will go to Supernatural and CSI: NY when those shows air new, competing episodes next Friday. Fingers crossed, eh? And keep spreading the word about Fringe!
