At least two major characters won’t be appearing in season five of Game of Thrones, but don’t worry−they’re not getting killed off.
According to series star Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor on Game of Thrones, his character and Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) will be missing from the next season of the HBO fantasy series, as the show’s writers apparently do not plan on expanding upon their storyline during season five. Also, if both Hodor and Bran are not showing up in season five of Game of Thrones, that also means that we can’t probably count out Meera (Ellie Kendrick) as well.
“We have a season off and we have a year’s hiatus, solely because I imagine our storyline is up to the end of the books,” Nairn said in a recent interview. “So, I get my year off now to do [my DJ show] Rave of Thrones and gallivant all over the world.”
Despite the influx of new actors that have been cast for season five like Jonathan Pryce and Alexander Siddig to play the numerous new characters that will be introduced, it is still strange that Game of Thrones would just drop Bran’s storyline for a season after making it such a major part of the season four finale, as he had just finally met the three-eyed raven that he’s been looking for since the show’s first season. Reportedly, the series’ focus on Dorne in season five will fill the gap left by the missing Bran, Hodor, and (most likely) Meera.
