Game of Thrones Preview: Season 2 Spotlight on Joffrey Baratheon

Game of Thrones - Joffrey BaratheonThe second season premiere of Game of Thrones is only 3 weeks away and HBO is really ramping up the promotional machine. A new trailer with all new scenes was released just this week. Titled "The More You Love", it focuses on the tough choices a lot of characters will be forced to make this year.

HBO is also releasing character profiles for the new and returning characters featured in the upcoming season of Game of Thrones. Up first is the boy everyone loves to hate: Joffrey Baratheon. Containing new sneak peeks and an interview with young actor Jack Gleeson and other cast members, this character profile gives us insight into what's in store for the young king this season.

"For my character, season 2 is about fitting into his role as king " Gleeson explains. "He's testing his limits...and finding out he doesn't have any limits."

Instituting Joffrey was king as a good idea at the time, at least until Ned's beheading, co-star Lena Heady explains. But now even Cersei is questioning whether Joffrey should rule. "Joffrey's relationship with Cersei has certainly gone through a change," Gleeson explains, "He was always his mother's pet, so to speak."

"She doesn't have any grip on Joffrey," Heady warns. "He's power-crazed...She's struggling with this monster that she's created that she loves." Part of his hunger for power includes keeping Sansa as a virtual prisoner in King's Landing and asserting his power over her.

Watch the Joffrey Baratheon character preview below and don't miss the season 2 premiere of Game of Thrones on Sunday, April 1 on HBO.
