The recent third season premiere for Game of Thrones drew a record 4.4 million viewers, which was up 4% from its previous series high and up 13% when compared with its season-two premiere. Across the three plays for the night, 6.7 million viewers tuned in, surpassing last season’s debut night of 6.3 million viewers by 7%.
Therefore, it should come as no surprise today that HBO has officially announced that the show has been renewed for a fourth season.
This is good news for fans of the show, because the third book in George R.R. Martin’s epic series, is so large that it needs to be told across two seasons. The show’s producers have already discussed the fact that “A Storm of Swords” will be covered in seasons 3 and 4.
A new episode of Game of Thrones will be airing on Sunday, April 7. Check out a preview here.
