Game of Thrones: HBO Renews Series for Third Season
In a move that should shock absolutely no one (but should also delight you as well), HBO has announced that it is renewing Game of Thrones for a third season.
"Series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss raised our expectations for the second season and then surpassed them," said Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. "We are thrilled by all the viewer and media support we've received for the series, and can't wait to see what Dan and David have in store for next season."
Game of Thrones has been a consistent performer for HBO. Its second season recently premiered on April 1 to critical acclaim. According to HBO, the April 1 season premiere had a gross accumulated audience of 8.3 million viewers across its repeats and various platforms. The season 1 average was 9.3 million viewers and HBO is confident that the show will continue to perform well in its second season. There's no reason to believe otherwise since the second episode of the season only shed 100,000 viewers from the premiere.
Game of Thrones airs on Sunday nights at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO. For more coverage of the show, including spoilers and previews of upcoming episodes, view our Game of Thrones page.
