Character: Quaithe
Character Details: Quaithe is a relatively minor character in Daenerys' storyline for the second season. When Daenerys takes refuge in an abandoned city, she sends out members of her khalasar to explore the surrounding area. One of her bloodriders, Jhogo, returns with representatives from the city of Qarth, including Xaro Xhoan Daxos and Quaithe, a priestess. Quaithe delivers to Daenerys a prophecy that will guide Daenerys' quest from that point forward.
What You've Seen Her in Before: To be honest, probably nothing. Pradelska is a stage actress, and has almost nonexistent film credits (she's been in one short film, Ashes). Pradelska has plenty of stage credits to her name, though; the actress has appeared in twenty-one stage productions since 2008.
Described as "husky-voiced," Pradelska is a German-American actress who currently lives in London. She speaks three languages (English, French, and German), and can do a wide variety of dialects and accents. She seems to be overly qualified for the minor role of Quaithe.
Character: Lorren
Character Details: Lorren, also known as Black Lorren, comes from the Iron Islands (the homeland of Theon Greyjoy and his sister Yara). One of the fiercest of the Ironborn fighters, Lorren meets Theon after the latter returns to the Iron Islands as an envoy for King Robb. He'll play a part throughout season 2 in the exploits of Theon.
What You've Seen Him in Before: The Scottish KB has been increasingly prolific over the past several years, nabbing bit roles in films such as Alfonso Cuaron's fantastic Children of Men and the less fantastic National Treasure: Book of Secrets. His television credits include guest roles in the British cop drama Ashes to Ashes and several uncredited roles in the series Rebus.
More recently, KB appeared in the film Gulliver's Travels, alongside fellow Thrones newcomer Gemma Whelan, and the film Harry Brown, which also featured Liam Cunningham, another new face for the series.
Character: Balon Greyjoy
Character Details: The stern father of Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) and Yara Greyjoy (Gemma Whelan), Balon is the lord of the Iron Islands. Theon is sent to his father as an emissary on the behalf of the new King Robb early on in the season. Considering that he's been a prisoner of the Starks for most of his adolescence, Theon doesn't realize that there's a lot of bad blood between House Greyjoy and House Stark, making the sell tougher than he expected.
What You've Seen Him in Before: Malahide has been acting since the '70s, and has appeared in classic shows like The Singing Detective and Middlemarch. More recently, he's had a recurring role on Law & Order: UK and appeared in a bit role in theSamuel L. Jackson episode of the HBO series Extras. In 2008, Malahide appeared in the film remake of Brideshead Revisited.

Fine actor! I loved him in "Kingdom" with Stephen Fry! Thanks to Hulu some of us lucky Americans got to see him in action already. I can't wait!
Awesome! Can't wait until season 2 starts. I'm about 1/3 of the way through A Storm of Swords and loving every minute of it.
I hope HBO keeps it going through the whole series. There are some wonderful scenes I would love to see on screen.
Is it sure, that Oona will play Jeyne WESTERLING? As I heard it can also be Jeyne POOLE. Did HBO confirmed, that she will play Jeyne Westerling?
I doubt she's Jeyne Poole. She's nowhere close in age, and while she was name-dropped the first season, she doesn't pop up again until the 5th book.
I know, she is not in the 2nd book, but I still hoped, they make some changes, because, it is difficult for me to imagine Oone in this role. She is not really like Jeyne, and until it is not confirmed, and 100% sure, who she is, I will hope.
Holy Crap, talk about changing things, how 'bout three quarters of the cast. Audacity, sound appropriate; I guess that's why I love this series.
Wow, that is how I pictured Stannis! I'm almost done with the 3rd book and boy do things get better!! GO HOUSE STARK!!
Holy Cow, there is a sh*t-ton of spoilers in this? You're ruining some major developments, like the whole Craster dynamic was something of a revelation in the books!!
Wow this was a really "SPOILERS FREE" Article!!!
While I love who they are casting and all that, there are still some parts I am fearing might have been cut that I would like to see cast. THose being: Podrick Payne, he was supposed to be in last season, but his real important moments are in this book. Edmure Tully, another very important role this season. THE BLACKFISH, Brynden Tully, a character too cool to just leave out. Hoster Tully, although I don't really have that much of a need to see him on the show, he does contribute to the story. But, 16 of 20 is pretty good. I just feel bad for the Tully men. All of them are cut from the show.
I agree. How can the Tully's be left out? Makes me wonder what the story line will be without some of these significant and v. Cool characters.
I don't understand why they're changing Asha's name to Yara. they don't give a reason and I can't see a good reason to do so. So is this just a case of the director trying to put his mark on the story and thus, like so many other great stories, they end up putting so many marks that they end up messing things up?
They changed her name because it sounded too much like Oosha who is up in Winterfell. The general public is evidently too stupid to tell the difference between the two. It doesn't bother me too much. A name does not make the character. I don't like that a random Lannister character is being added in who isn't in the books though.
That 'random' Lannister character is actually Cleos Frey who is a Lannister and a Frey. They changed his name to show his relation to Jamie when they 'escape.'
I wish they wouldn't exclude important things from the book and change things like people's names. It feels like they think we the audience are too stupid to tell one Asha from the other Osha. Really was impressed with season 1 please for the love of God don't screw it up
Seriously.. why would you change Asha's name?? There's no way the GoT watching audience would get confused by this, and I totally want some Asha Greyjoy merch!!
Casting her looks like a brilliant choice though.
I know right? So stupid, especially when Osha isnt even mentioned in book 3, Asha’s a much more important characters, should’ve changed Oshas name the first season instead
I'm sure the Tully men will be added in, without Edmure there is no Red Wedding.
Haha, a new character and a new name. Melisandre is fuckin hot! I just finished the 3 books, and the story is really good. I hope they would stay loyal to the books though, like they did in the first season. You could pretty much watch that and read the succeeding books.
the 3 books? so you still have A Feast for Crows and A dance with Dragons?
And what about Qhorin Halfhand? He has a small but vey important role in the plot beyond the wall.
How about Tilda Swinton as Lady Olenna ?
What about Mace Tyrell. They very well can't leave out the Lord of Highgarden.
i would have picked Miranda Hart for Brienne of Tarth
Yeah Im not sure about a model portrating a character who is suppise to be brillianrly ugly….?!
Good thing I've already read the books or else I would be pissed. There are ways to introduce new characters without giving away every plot development of the second season. This article should have major spoiler warnings.
The only things I gave away were the personalities and the context in which we'll meet the characters. Every plot development of the second season? Not by a long, long, long shot.
First three books have bin out over a decade now, spoilers are fair game hah
My apologies. Every plot development was hyperbole. Let's just say MANY plot developments.
Love Stannis, Gilly, Craster, Davos but… Brienne really need her blue eyes D: !
Margaery is too old but great :)
if they didn’t bother giving dany and vis violet eyes, or tyrions mismatched eyes, I do ubt they care about briennes.
When does season 2 begin??? Anyone???
April 1st is the premier
spring 2012
I have read all 4 books and have started on the 5th in hard cover. My son Mike bought them for my Birthday Augest 1. (a very good son) You'll never guess what happens next and I'm not telling! Enjoy them yourself Karen W Rockford Mi.
I lost my legend of the seeker. This show dominates that abomination that terry goodkind let warner brothers ruin. They better keep GOT
Is it just me, or does the guy they cast as Balon Greyjoy look exactly like Kurtwood Smith, who played Red Foreman on "That 70s Show?"
I can just hear it now. "Theon, the reason bad things happen to you is because you're a DUMBASS."
Although I love Game of Thrones, I feel that this casting is extremely one-sided. Dear HBO, next time hire some eye-candy for the women as well please.
Thank you.
Love,
~ Period-piece show loving 20-something year old woman.
It would be wiser to ask them to please hire better suited actors for the role & if the books constantly mention a trait or look of a character then abide by it (e.g the lannister bastards having ringlets or Stannis and Renly being bulked up like Robert was back in the day)
Yea I feel like Stannis has the right look but I pictured him being gigantic framed
Excellent job on some of those castings. Stupid Idea bringing in a new lannister…it is not like the books lack characters to work with…ahem Can't wait to see how it all turns out.
CORRECTION: ROOSE BOLTON is NOT "a liege lord of the King in the North Robb Stark", it is Robb Stark who is Liege Lord to Roose Bolton, making Bolton one of Robb Stark's BANNERMEN. The description got it backwards, as House Stark is THE Liege House of The North and all Northern Houses and 'under' Stark's. Big difference.
get to DoD my friend, this is accurate…
finished the four books.. can't wait to grab the copy of A Feast for Crows and Dance with Dragons… :)
Blood and gold & steel and snow are actually just one book (storm of swords) split for production due to its size :)
who is playing egrette? or half hand? i hope they break the seasons not by book. some are too big for 10 episodes. the red wedding should end a season.
its gonna be awesome… ive been an extra for episodes 2,3,5 and 9 so far… episode 9 is gonna be the big one…. we did 4 days worth of rehearsal and 4 night shoots to get that done… and it was long nights beleive me!!!!! ps the hound in real life is huge lol
you lucky son of a…
Jaqen!! He’s one of my absolute favourites!!!! Can’t wait to see him in action… Excellent choices….! Except Asha(Yara) everyone of the characters were great!
WHY the heck are they adding characters that are not even in the books, thats why i love game of thrones cos its stays true to the well written books.. Now they adding shit thats not even there and 'fing up for future season. RRM do something about this! :(
It is to late, they are to far into filming
It was mentioned but I don't think anyone responded. The reason for Theon Greyjoy's sister's name being changed from Asha to Yara is so that she is not confused with the Wildling woman is residing in Winterfell named Osha. In text when we read the book, we noticed the difference between A and O, when you are listening to names being spoken and sometimes with accents, it would be confusing for some. This was what I read of the feed from the official site at least.
Okay, I have no insight into this matter, but I’m guessing that Mike Waltrip would like to see this scenario:
Thank goodness I read through "Feast of Crows" although it sounds as if the second season may only cover half of "Storm of Swords" and if HBO is smart use the second half for Season Three. For those that have read through FOC that will be maddening as heck, but I look frward to the wait. My three favorite characters are of course Tyrion, Arya, and Daneyrs. I cannot wait for the new season! Inspired series by Goerge R.R. Martin, truly.
I bet that most of them will DIE !! haha
