I think pretty much the whole world watches Game of Thrones. The show is just so damn good, and so damn entertaining, it is hard not to get swept up in its majesty. But I would be lying if I were to say I don’t watch the show sometimes and automatically think of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It is like I am waiting for a killer rabbit to show up and tear apart a Lannister or something. Thing is, there is a Game of Thrones and Monty Python connection that no one knows about. Until now, that is.
Vanity Fair dropped the bomb, but did you know that Game of Thrones and Monty Python used the same castle? Come on, don’t even pretend you knew that. The odd thing about it is, it must makes me like Game of Thrones and Monty Python that much more. Truth is, it is just the castle from the pilot episode of Game of Thrones, but still, it is sort of mind blowing to think of those two worlds colliding. Even the showrunner admits that Python was a huge influence, and at any moment, they are only “fifteen degrees away from Monty Python.”
So, in essence, one of the most serious medieval shows ever made was influenced by one of the most hilarious and satirical medieval movies ever made. That is the kind of thing that just warms the soul. I am sorry, but I am a nerd, and that is really cool to know.
