Game of Thrones Season 2: Details on George R.R. Martin's Episode

Spoilers for Game of Thrones season 2 below.

We're still a long ways away from Game of Thrones season two, but the scriptwriters are busy at work already to get the season all written out, since filming begins later this month. While David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will likely be penning the majority of the second season's episodes, author George R.R. Martin is penning at least one: it's episode 2.09, and it's titled "Blackwater."

Martin, the writer of the book series on which Thrones is based, obviously chose the heavy hitter for the season. The title alone gives away the events of the episode: the famous, climactic Battle of Blackwater Bay which takes place toward the end of A Clash of Kings. It seems like Martin is getting his pick of the episodes, after his series highlight "The Pointy End," back in season one.

Fans who were disappointed with the lack of battle scenes in season one will not be disappointed with "Blackwater," which will undoubtedly feature some really hardcore ship-fighting that would put Pirates of the Caribbean to shame. If the episode sticks to the scale of the books (which I'm sure it will), we're looking at the most hardcore episode of Game of Thrones yet. And that includes the episode that had Khal Drogo ripping out a guy's tongue through his throat ("The Pointy End," coincidentally).

Martin released a blog post over the weekend stating that he's nearly finished with the first draft of the episode. While I'm sure pretty much everyone reading this would much rather he go ahead and start churning out The Winds of Winter, at least he's getting this script out of the way so he can focus on the sixth book of the series.

Oh, wait. He's plotting out another, non-Game of Thrones book instead. Sigh.

let's just hope that we won't have to wait another six years this time

I was thinking the same thing as I read through that battle. If they can manage to bring that scene to life… WOW!

I just hope he has put the details of how the books are to wrap up in a bank vault somewhere and contracted with someone to finish the writing of the last two books in the event of his untimely demise. Of course what really worries me is that he might not finish them before my untimely demise. Come on, George. You've got to beat the reaper, man.

  4. hi!,I love your writing so so much!
