Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth On Being A Metaphor For Beauty and the Beast

Two Game of Thrones stories in one day? Well, that, my friends, is a fine day. Where as last, we told you about the Monty Python and Game of Thrones connection, this time we are going to tell you how Jamie Lannister and Brienne of Tarth are a veiled and reversed allegory for Beauty and the Beast. Once you make the connection and think about it, it makes a ton of sense, actually. I am very surprised some internet nerds had not picked up on this yet.

Gwendoline Christie, the actress who plays Brienne of Tarth had a sit down with George R.R. Martin about what he had wanted for her character and the direction he hoped it would go. He let her know he wanted Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth to be a sort of Beauty and the Beast, with genders reversed. This is a dynamic we will see played up even more in the upcoming season. Keep in mind, the season opens with a wedding, in which we will get to see a very different side of Brienne. Not only will we see it, most of the kingdom will see it, as will Jamie himself. We wont spoil much more that for you, but this is a relationship that is more nuanced than most you would see on TV, and this is just two characters on this stellar show.

Check out this interview with Gwendoline at TV Line to learn more about her character and what to expect from next season.
