Well, it looks like the Gang is breaking up, and it won’t be getting back together again.
Fox has officially announced that its series Gang Related after only season. The serialized cop drama, which ran for 13 episodes this summer, will not return for season two due to low ratings, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Gang Related premiered back in May, earning a very weak 0.9 among adults among adults 18-49, and the series ended its first and only season with an average of 0.7 in the demo. Fox had considered renewing the series last month, moving the show’s location from Los Angeles to North Carolina, Austin, or Chicago, which would have trimmed costs but would have also cost the series some of its cast (series star Terry O’Quinn would have most likely not returned).
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that there was an open 2015 summer spot on the schedule for Gang Related, but ultimately, the network decided it best to cancel the series, citing that the show was too serialized to work in its typically low-rated and little-watched time slot.
In addition to O’Quinn, whose past TV credits include Lost, 666 Park Avenue, and Hawaii Five-0, the cast of Gang Related also included Ramon Rodriguez (Charlie’s Angels, The Wire), Jay Hernandez (Nashville, Last Resort), RZA (Californication), and Shantel VanSanten (One Tree Hill, Beauty and the Beast).
Now with the cancellation of Gang Related, it means that only one first year drama from 2013-14 will return to Fox for a second season this coming year: the supernatural action series, Sleepy Hollow.
