Oh Lord. Is there nothing people won’t do to remain in the public eye?
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I actually miss the old Lindsay Lohan. Her version of The Parent Trap is still a movie I like watching and I loved her in Mean Girls. I’m actually really, really sad that her life has been overshadowed by the actions of her private lives. It’s clear that her parents are more interested in getting their names mentioned on TV and on the internet than actually helping her. Of course, that’s no excuse for her own behavior, because we all have to take responsibility for our own choices, but I can see why this horrible situation has gotten so far out of control.
On this week’s episode of Glee, there was a humorous scene where the substitute teacher played by Gwyneth Paltrow wanted to connect with the kids in Spanish class. Instead of having them repeat stupid phrases like “the grass is green” or “where is the library?”, she talks to them in Spanish about Lindsay Lohan. She said phrases like “Lindsay Lohan is totally crazy” and she asked the kids how many times Lohan had been in rehab.
Did the show go too far? Probably not. I’m not saying Lohan deserves to be publicly ridiculed, but when you engage in a certain type of behavior, you have to expect that people are going to make comments. But Lindsay’s fame-seeking mother, however, is not taking this lying down. Apparently Dina Lohan told Gossip Cop:
“Our lawyers are sending a letter” to “Glee” on the grounds that the show allegedly defamed the actress who, by all accounts, is working hard on her recovery.
A rep for Lohan adds, “Lindsay has an issue that millions of people around the world are dealing with yet ‘Glee’ is treating addiction as a laughing matter.”
Here’s a friendly suggestion. Perhaps instead of paying lawyers to write up and send letters, Dina may want to use that money to pay for counseling for her daughter (because last I heard, Lohan was seriously in need of money). And instead of spending time perpetuating controversy and staying in the limelight, she may want to focus on helping her daughter get better.
I’m not saying Lohan has as much talent as Robert Downey Jr., but if he can make a significant come-back from his own person troubles, then she can try as well. In any event, I hope she does get better and overcome her addiction.
Oh, and before anyone asks, yes, I am aware of the irony of keeping Dina "famous" by virtue of writing this article.
Oh Dina, you're such a good mom. You too, Michael. Wish you were my parents. I've always wanted a deep-seeded resentment toward authority figures.
I wonder if she'll band together with Mary Todd Lincoln's living relatives to bring a class action lawsuit against Glee.
