During Glee's summer hiatus there were many rumors about the direction of the show and one thing that was discussed was the aspect of guest stars. Ryan Murphy claimed that there was going to be a restriction on the amount they had in season 3, but there were still some artists that he was after. Could these two Latin music heavyweights that are set to appear in the same episode at the end of January be who he was talking about?
The two stars in question are Ricky Martin and Gloria Estefan and the episode they will feature in will be devoted to Latin and bilingual music. One will be playing a teacher and the other will be playing a parent to one of the regular cast members.
TVLine got the scoop on Ricky Martin and they were told that Martin will be playing "the hottest Spanish teacher ever in the history of Ohio." Martin's Spanish teacher will also be musically talented as he is set to perform two musical numbers on the show. Ricky Martin will follow this guest appearance on Glee with the role of Che in the Broadway revival of Evita which opens in April 2012, so this will be the perfect opportunity to promote this musical.
Gloria Estefan is currently in negotiations to appear in the same episode and Entertainment Weekly first reported that she will be playing Santana's (Naya Rivera) mother. In this week's episode of Glee, Santana came out to her grandmother who, instead of welcoming her granddaughter with open arms kicked her out. Santana has said that her parents are fine with her sexuality but we have yet to see them. Expect to see Estefan performing some of her own tracks in this episode in the New Year.
What do you think of these guest star choices? Are you glad to see that they have returned to big name guest stars or would you prefer for Glee to stay away from stunt casting?
