If, perchance, you live under a rock, you may not have heard about the recent Glee graduation controversy. First it was announced that several key cast members were leaving the show, then they weren’t but they were graduating, then there was supposed to be a spin-off, but there won’t be one now, etc, etc, etc.
So before we move onto other Glee season 3 spoilers that have nothing to do with this nonsense, let’s put it all to rest right now. At the recent TCA press tour, 20th Century Fox president Gary Newman, said that they have not yet decided what to do about a potential spin-off for characters like Rachel, Kurt and Finn. Basically, they’re going to be making that determination at a later date. “I think as the season goes on and Ryan and his other executive producers and writers sort of find the stories that feel like they are resonating, the series will go in one direction or another. I think there is plenty of time to resolve the issue of what happens to the seniors.” In other words, they don’t know yet. There might be a spin-off or the characters might just graduate and stick with Glee for the foreseeable future.
But moving on, because enough with all of that. Here’s a round-up of more recent Glee spoilers.
Relationships – Old and New
According to TV Guide, Lea Michele has said that Finn and Rachel are back together and will be a couple for season 3.
You might recall that the writers had set up Mercedes and Sam as a potential couple in the season 2 finale, but with the departure of Chord Overstreet, the writers have cast a new love interest for Mercedes. According to TV Line, when Glee returns for its third season, Friday Night Lights’ LaMarcus Tinker will join the cast as Marcus (previously known as Bubba), a love interest for Mercedes. Marcus will be a big linebacker who players for the high school's football team.
General Season 3 Spoilers
Quinn went from being a bitchy cheerleader to a sweet girl and back again. But TV Line is reporting that her bitchiness might be back front and center in season 3. Could she be causing trouble for the newly reunited Rachel and Finn? Only time will tell.
Rachel will be joining the school musical this season, says TV Guide. Which is actually a great idea if the whole group works towards a big end of the year musical like they work towards regionals and nationals. And TV Line reports that some cast members will be learning tap-dancing for a performance in the season 3 premiere, which will air September 20.
As for a few more graduation details, Naya Rivera told E!Online that Santana will be among the group graduating at the end of season 3. In addition, no one is sure what will be happening Blaine and his graduation status, not even Darren Criss.
Finally, Fox’s programming president Kevin Reilly spoke during the TCA press tour and shared a few details about season 3 in general. Apparently it will be a “back to basics” year that’s focused on the kids. “Initially, there’s not going to be any big guest stars or tributes in the first batch of episodes”, which doesn’t rule out future guest stars or tribute episodes. Season 3 will have a year-long arc that drives the story and the Glee Project winner will join the show “at some point down the road”.
Season 3 will also see the introduction of three new characters, according to TV Line: (1) a rich bully named Sugar, (2) a punk named Sheila, and (3) a geometry teacher named Nancy Bleithem, who isn’t crazy about arts in schools. What are the odds that she and Sue get along?
Glee returns with its third season on Tuesday, September 20 on Fox.
