Glee Spoiler - Javier Bardem to Guest Star

I don't watch Glee, and don't intend to, but I found this bit of news interesting: Javier Bardem is interested in guest starring, according to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello. The Spanish actor apparently pitched the idea of a guest appearance to the show's executive producer/creator Ryan Murphy. Murphy and Bardem had recently worked together on the Julia Roberts flick Eat Pray Love.

Bardem's pitch was an interesting one, and I don't know if it's how I'd imagine him: he's going to be a rock star who befriends the wheelchair-bound glee club member Artie. While most television rock stars are mousy guys played by Dominic Monaghan (LOST and Chuck) and Jeremy Renner (House). Bardem's proposed "Spanish heavy metal" rocker is obviously a departure from that time-honored tradition, and it will be interesting to see how this plays on television. Will I watch the episode just to see that? Certainly not. Well, maybe, if he has the same Chigurh haircut he did in No Country for Old Men (pictured).

Bardem isn't the first guest star linked to Glee's second season. Susan Boyle has reportedly been approached to play a lunch lady, and Katie Holmes is apparently also slated to appear.

Glee season one had a few guest stars, but nothing compared to the magnitude of the second season casting news. Neil Patrick Harris appeared toward the end of the first season as Will Shuester (Matthew Morrison)'s enemy, while Olivia Newton-John popped up for a duet with Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch).

Many fans are complaining about Glee's impending oversaturation of guest stars, pointing at the talent of the main cast as a reason for less distraction. "They are going to ruin the show if they keep doing these stunt castings," proclaimed one commenter on the EW post.

However, some are indifferent. "Whatev," claimed another. "I’m going to watch and love GLEE either way. Even if Kate and every single one of her 'plus 8' guest stars, I’m still gonna watch it, still gonna love it."

How do you feel about Bardem (and the others) being cast. Too much? Not enough? Let us know in the comments below, or sign up for the forums and discuss it there. I've already started a thread for it.
