Will the infamous blogger Gossip Girl be shutting down her website in 2013?
That seems like a possible plan for at least one Upper East Sider according to E!'s Marc Malkin, who interviewed the Queen B herself, Leighton Meester, aka Blair Waldorf, who says she has two more years left on the show.
"Because we're under contract," Meester explained to Malkin. She didn't mention renewing said contract when the time came, which lead Malkin to ask if the show would also end as well in two years.
"I don't know, but I think there's that old saying about wanting to go out on top," Meester answered.
The Queen has spoken.
It would only make sense for the entire show to end when the cast's contracts are up, which would avoid awkward pairings with new cast members that will send fans screaming in the opposite direction. In fact, the prospect of Blair Waldorf not being a main character on Gossip Girl is enough to write a very ugly cease and desist letter to The CW, asking them to close shop if it every comes to that travesty.
But don't think that the stars this hit CW drama are counting the days to be released from their contracts ala the Dawson's Creek and Roswell casts from days of yore. Meester says the Gossip Girl producers, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, are more lenient on the casts drive to do something else besides the show, allowing for them the have time to film movies and do other projects.
"It allows you to be ready for when the show is over," Meester proclaimed. Take note future teen drama thespians.
So should The CW close shop on Gossip Girl when the contracts are up? Or spin it off into Gossip Girl: The Carlyles, which features an entirely new cast? I say do the latter...
