The fifth season of Gossip Girl will be premiering on Monday, September 26 (now airing at 8:00 p.m.) and the season will bring a few changes and some new characters. The CW has also ordered two additional episodes for season 5, bringing the total episodes to 24.
To help prepare you for season 5 of Gossip Girl, we've rounded up some spoilers and set photos for you.
New, Recurring & Departing Characters
We know that Kaylee DeFer will be returning as Serena's cousin Charlie in season 5 and one of the set photos in the slide-show below shows her and Blake Lively filming a scene. Several new characters will also be joining the cast in a recurring role. Marc Menard (who appeared on Lost) will be appearing as Father Cavalia, a priest from Monaco with ties to Prince Louis, Blair's fiance, according to TV Line. French actress Roxane Mesquida is also joining the cast in the recurring role of Louis' sister, who we are told isn't pleased about her brother's upcoming wedding to Blair.
We also know that Elizabeth Hurley has joined the cast as Diana Payne, a wealthy media-mogul. You can spot her in the photos below. In addition, Brian J. Smith (Stargate Universe) will be appearing as a chef named Max. TV Line reports that Max will be seen in the September 26 premiere, in Los Angeles. Will he be interacting with Serena, who has headed to the west coast for the summer? EW also reports that Simon Miller will be returning for an episode. Miller has previously appeared on Gossip Girl as Patrick Roberts, an actor who was involved in a short love triangle between Dan and Olivia (played by Hilary Duff).
Connor Paolo, who has played Eric van der Woodsen for four seasons, will not be returning to Gossip Girl in its fifth season. Paolo will be seen this fall in the new ABC drama Revenge and told TV Line that he is, unfortunately, done with Gossip Girl.
Chuck, Blair & Drama
A few details about some relationships have started springing up. E!Online reports that the Chuck-Blair relationship dilemma isn't over. "Louis is still very concerned about how Blair feels about Chuck—he will always worry, and that will be a problem—but they are definitely still planning their wedding at the beginning of the new season". One of the photos below show Blair and Chuck nearly kissing. But despite this scene, the wedding is still on. Methinks this wedding will not turn out to have a happy ending.
I am beyond ready for the Chuck and Blair drama in season 5 to start. If the show was just Chuck/Blair/Nate/Serena all day long? I'd be down with that.

I'm really excited for Chuck and Blair this year. The rest, well, I just want to see Chuck and Blair grow and build their way back to each other.

First of all I love that Chuck and Blair picture. I can't wait to see that scene. Secondly reading about Chuck and Blair and seeing their filming pictures makes me excited for season 5.

Enough! Some people watch the show hoping for the characters to develop and for story lines to evolve. All you lot want is more of the SAME.
Its not romantic anymore, its not exciting anymore and its not challenging anymore- this never sinking ship is making GG crap TV.
Very sad for me as I am a big fan of the show otherwise.
Finally, someone else with some sense and who actually wants the show to develop and improve. Thats why I liked Dan/Blair, it actually involved some growth with in the characters. Not like Chuck/Blair who have become stale and abusive. And all they do is bring about bad writing and characterization.

I was excited by the idea of Blair and Dan too because it hadnt been done on the show 43943 other times. Can't they ever go in a different direction? No one, I mean NO ONE, actually believes Blair is going to marry this damn prince. Theyre not fooling anyone. Its so obvious Chuck will get in the way. Predictable, predictable, boring.

Omg everyone's leaving Vanessa Eric and the best one jenny and two of them will never EVER be coming back. These tw need to realise that gossip girl made them and that they made gossip girl and get their asses back on set. Hopefully Jessica szohr isn't as silly and will return soon
Aww!! Love the Chuck and Blair picture. Cannot wait for Chuck to be redeemed in S5 and see them find their way back together again. I would feel ripped off if the show doesn't rebuild their relationship so they can find their way back together again.
Dan and Blair are OK in small doses but just as bantering friends. I found the second half of the season during the DB arc like a different show. It was like they decided to do a rip off of every teen romantic comedy out there – but in a contrived way. I want the over the top hyper reality of Gossip Girl. Not a second rate WB teen show. So less DB (except for small bits of comic relief) and more over the top hyper reality of the UES in S5 please.
Dan is a lame loser,he just want to be an insider.he's a coward. but however i will always love chuck and blair. i dont care bout chuck abusive act. but thats wht chuck always do right? he doesnt mean to hurt blair.

the story of Blair and Chuck is timeless, no matter what anyone says. They were starting to develop feelings in both the second and first seasons, then actually became a couple in season 3, and i couldn't have been happier when they were together. it is not boring if they get back together because they like to play games to make it interesting, and besides-that's just the nature of the characters anyways-evil/sexual. They fit very well together because they understand each other, and the Prince just couldn't understand Blair the way Chuck could/can. Despite everything, they are naturally gravitating towards each other, and, no matter what obstacles get in their way, they will always emerge stronger as individuals and as a couple. that, dear people, is real character development, for all of you "hating" on the idea of "Chair" once again. The fact that the relationship between Blair and the Prince is so easy is what makes it automatically bad. Good relationships are the ones that take a lot of work and struggle, because that's how you know if you truly want that person, as Blair and Chuck do for each other. Rest assured, "Chair" is far from over. I hope to see great things from them in season 5. :)
plus Serena is NOT bad! She is struggling to find her way in the world-to get away from her risky past and confront her demons. She used to be really mixed up, so now she has to pay for it, but i actually LIKE it! One of the only guaranteed parts of every series is that we will definitely get to see Serena battle her past and move on with her future! But if i know Serena, she will be doing it in STYLE regardless! :) love her!

I agree that there could be more charcter dev and plt dev. I wish Eric's character would have stayed. I'm curious if there will be another gay character on the show. There is such a strong following of gay people that love this show as well. It would kinda nice to work that in at least every once and a while. I too wish Jenny would come back. She was the ultimate bitch in my opinion. I was curious what damage Jenny and Georgina could do together. Cheers to the next season,whatever unfoldes! Xoxo
Awww! Chuck and Blair do "eye sex" like no one else. i agree with those who can stomach Dair in small doses. Any more Dair episodes will be unblairable! Pun intended.

I actually feel more sorry for Chuck right now and yet if you asked me at the end of season 4, I thought I would never forgive him. This is what Chair do to me. They pull on every heart string.
Apparently Im the only one completely bored and drained of Chuck and Blair. Its the fifth season and this crap has been going on since the first! Come on people, aren't you sick of the exact same story lines over and over? Let me sum up every single season:
DAN AND SERENA! OMG!
BLAIR AND CHUCK! OMG!
VANESSA SOMEHOW OVERHEARS OR SEES SOMETHING THAT SHE JUST MUST WARN PEOPLE ABOUT! SHE HAPPENS TO BE EVERYWHERE—AT ALL TIMES! SHE MUST BE GOSSIP GIRL!
I can't think of any other story lines that last more than two episodes.
These are good memories… of how Blair became the woman that she is today. A woman who deserves the love that Dan has to offer. Dair is the best. DAIR!
