Looks like a Russian spy will be infiltrating Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital during season eleven of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. The Americans actress Annet Mahendru will be guest starring in an upcoming episode of the Shonda Rhimes medical series.
Mahendru announced the news herself on Twitter yesterday but gave no specific details about who she will be playing. As far as we know, this will be a one-episode guest stint on Grey’s Anatomy for Mahendru, which points to her playing a patient or possibly the family member of a patient.
A series regular during the past two seasons on The Americans, Mahendru has received critical acclaim for her performance as KGB agent Nina Sergeevna Krylova on the FX spy series, even earning a 2014 Critics Choice Award nomination. While Nina’s fate at the end of the second season of The Americans looked very bleak, with her being sent back to Russia to face charges of treason, the series creators insist that Mahendru will be back as a series regular when the show returns next year for season three. The actress’s other TV credits include White Collar, The Blacklist, and 2 Broke Girls.
In addition to Mahendru, Grey’s Anatomy has already booked film and television star Geena Davis for a major season eleven recurring role. While not many specifics about her character have been revealed, it is known that Davis will be playing a surgeon at Grey Sloan Memorial, meaning that she and Mahendru may possibly end up sharing scenes together.
Grey’s Anatomy returns for its eleventh season on Thursday, Sept. 25, at its new time of 8 p.m.
