Grey's Anatomy: Kevin McKidd To Direct New Webisodes, Jessica Capshaw Goes On Maternity Leave

Grey's Anatomy is on a creative resurgence this season in my opinion and I "thank" the shooting massacre from last May for the much needed rocking of the characters cores. If the first four episodes have been any indication, the rest of the season will be epic as the aftermath continues to affect the characters in more profound ways than one hour can hold.

That's why I think God for webisodes.

Today, William Keck of TV Guide revealed that there will be a new series of webisodes for Grey's Anatomy called Seattle Grace: Message of Hope, which will premiere after tonight's episode. Kevin McKidd, who plays Dr. Owen Hunt on the medical drama, will direct two episodes of the mini-spinoff that will feature Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) as he butts heads with a new Seattle Grace PR person. Other Grey's characters to appear in the webisodes are April (Sarah Drew), Jackson (Jesse Williams) and Owen.

Last year's series of webisodes, Seattle Grace: On-Call, served as a great introduction to the misplaced Mercy West transplant doctors, which included April and Jackson. It also made us actually feel for two of the characters, Charles Percy (Robert Baker) and Reed Adamson (Nora Zehetner), before they tragically died in the shooting spree.

The Seattle Grace: Message of Hope webisodes begin tonight on ABC.com.

In other Grey's news, Jessica Capshaw, who plays pediatrician Dr. Arizona Robbins, will be taking maternity leave soon, but according to Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes, Capshaw will miraculously be absent for about two episodes, Ausiello reports.

"If she [Capshaw] needs more, she'll let me know," Rhimes confidently reported to Ausiello. "She's not a new mother. She's done this before... But if she decides she needs some more time, we’re going to give her some more time."

Capshaw's last appearance as Arizona before her maternity leave will be at the end of the Oct. 28th episode, which Ausiello has dubbed the exit as one of "dramatic fashion." Does this mean that there might be trouble between Arizona and her girlfriend Dr. Callie Torres?

Calzona fans, you have been warned.
