Wow, that was a lot of change for the doctors of Seattle Grace last night wasn't it?
In light of last night's events on Grey's Anatomy, which saw two characters depart, a memorable recurring character passing away, and the possible budding of a new relationship, fans want answers and Shonda Rhimes gave them to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello.
In terms of Callie and Arizona's (Sara Ramirez and Jessica Capshaw, respectively) "departure"? Ms. Rhimes had this to say:
"Their journey is going to be long and hard, but that doesn't mean they're not going to end up together. People better just prepare themselves for things to be difficult."
As far as if this "departure" will stick, it was reported earlier in the season that Capshaw would go on maternity leave, but would report back to work shortly after having the baby. Rhimes said should write Arizona back into the show according to Capshaw's recovery from giving birth. We just wonder if a time jump will be used to explain Callie and Arizon's trip to and back...
As for Alex (Justin Chambers) and April (Sarah Drew), I saw that coming a mile away. But don't expect Lexie to go on a jealousy streak...
"We have no plans for an Alex-April-Lexie triangle," Rhimes firmly stated not only to Ausiello, but on her Twitter account as well. So that should nip that rumor in the bud, right?
And what about that other fan wish of closure for Alex/Izzie fans? According to Rhimes, they writers had planned to kill Izzie (Katherine Heigl) offscreen to wrap up the story line! Luckily, Rhimes knew fans would be pissed and would've felt cheated, so she dropped that option.
"It just felt so mean," Rhimes revealed to EW. "It wasn’t closure; it just felt brutal. Alex (Justin Chambers) might have never recovered from it. And the audience who loved Izzie would’ve been devastated. So we didn’t do it."
Thank God.
Rhimes did say she was open for Heigl to return to wrap up that story line, but is prepared to move on if that option never comes. Now, will the fans be able to move on?
