'Grey's Anatomy': No Wedding or Baby For Mer-Der

Seems like those Post-it vows will just have to... well, 'stick'.

In an interview with the Winnipeg Free Press, Ellen Pompeo explained why the unorthodox vows exchanged between Pompeo's character Meredith Grey and beau Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) were the perfect route to take for the show's central characters, which was a point show creator/executive producer Shonda Rhimes tried to get across.

"I think [Shonda's] point is you don't have to have that type of wedding to have a real relationship," Ms. Pompeo explained to the WFP Thursday. "You don't have to have a wedding, you don't have to have that piece of paper to validate a relationship..."

When asked if Rhimes might renege on her non Mer-Der wedding stance, Pompeo confidently doesn't think it will ever happen. So for those fans itching to see Meredith fawning over wedding dresses, you are so out of luck. Besides, can really see Meredith being a wedding dress fawner? Maybe for someone else, but not for herself.

So if we won't get a big elaborate wedding, what about a bouncing baby of joy? Don't hold your breath, according to Pompeo.

"I think they're trying, but I don't think we'll see a baby on the show... Production-wise, it's too difficult to deal with infants while you're shooting."

Fans of the show remember that Meredith discovered she was pregnant in last season's finale, but lost the baby after the devastating shooting rampage that took place, which involved several (ancillary) characters getting killed and left Derek fighting for his life after being shot in close range by the killer.

Speaking of that two-hour torture fest, the doctors of Seattle Grace will not be getting over the ordeal so soon. Pompeo revealed that the first 12 episodes of the 24 episode seventh season will deal with the aftermath of the shooting and how it affected everyone. Episode three just aired and production is currently on episode eight. So the healing process is just beginning.

"They'll probably transition out the last 12 episodes," Pompeo suggested. "But it'll be a gradual thing, but they'll eventually have to move on after everyone's healed."

And healing is what we need now at Seattle Grace.

So are you guys ready to partake in the healing process?
